To Increase Reading Interest, the ITS Community Service Team Partners with Village Cadres Through a Literacy Tour

ITS Campus, ITS News – In an effort to strengthen reading culture and literacy governance at the village level, the Community Service Program (KKN) group of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Lokus Sawocangkring initiated the ITS Literacy Tour on Wednesday (July 8). This activity involved village administrators, library cadres, and high school students to visit the ITS Library and the ITS Research and Innovation Building (GRIT).

​The Head of the ITS Literacy Tour, Auliya Khodijah, explained that the program was designed to provide comprehensive insight into both literacy and technological advancements. Through this series of tours, the KKN team aims to inspire cadres and students. “In addition to learning about digital-based library management, they can also see firsthand how ITS students create innovations to meet community needs,” she said.

The first session began at the ITS Library, where participants were invited to explore the various facilities available, including the reading room, literature collection, and oil and gas museum. The village library cadres also received a brief briefing on archiving management and organizing reading materials to make them more appealing to villagers.

The series of activities continued with a visit to the ITS GRIT Building. There, high school students and village administrators had the opportunity to see firsthand the various works and tools developed by ITS students and researchers. Participants were enthusiastic about witnessing and understanding the functions and uses of these research tools.

Participants were highly enthusiastic throughout the event. One of the library staff, Putu, expressed his delight and appreciation for the opportunity to learn new things during his visit to ITS. “I was so happy to see firsthand and have various things explained here, from the ITS library to the excellent technological creations made by ITS students,” he said enthusiastically as he shared his impressions.

Through the ITS Literacy Tour and this educational visit, it is hoped that the synergy between universities and the village community can be maintained. The Sawocangkring Community Service (KKN) team hopes the insights gained can be implemented sustainably in Sawocangkring Village and spark a passion for learning among the village’s younger generation. This activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 on Quality Education. (*)
