ITS Campus, ITS News — To commemorate the night of Nuzulul Qur’an, Ramadan on Campus (RDK) Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) 2026 held a Ramadan Festival featuring the Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar MA as the main speaker. The event, titled Rediscovering the Energy of Life through the Light of Nuzulul Qur’an, was held at the ITS Manarul Ilmi Mosque, Friday (6/3) evening.

In his sermon, Nasaruddin explained that the Quran is not only understood as a holy book in the form of a mushaf, but also as a reflection of all phenomena in the universe. This can also be understood as the Qur’an as a macrocosm, present in the form of the universe, like trees and planets. “Meanwhile, the Qur’an in the form of a mushaf serves as a guide for humanity,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque emphasized that these two forms cannot be separated in human life. He emphasized that the Qur’an must be practiced in parallel. “We must not only believe in the Qur’an, but also recognize the signs of Allah’s greatness found in the universe,” he said.

The Indonesian Islamic scholar exemplified the importance of understanding the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (ushul fiqh) in bridging the gap between religious knowledge and science. He cited the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic, where people are advised to maintain social distance to prevent the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) states that during prayer, people should stand close to one another.

Continuing his presentation, the Minister of Religious Affairs explained that these differences represent a form of adaptation to the conditions faced by society. These conditions demonstrate the importance of principles of Islamic jurisprudence (ushul fiqh) so that we can understand religious teachings without neglecting the essence of sharia. “Therefore, students need to view the Quran as a source of inspiration in understanding life and the development of science,” he said.
