ITS Campus, ITS News — With the goal of realizing ITS’s vision of becoming one of the world’s top 300 universities, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening research performance and increasing scientific publications in reputable international journals. This commitment is reflected in the formulation of the 2026 Strategic Research Grant (SRG) program, which was finalized at a recent ITS leadership meeting.
ITS Rector Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati, ST, MSc, Eng, PhD, said that SRG 2026 is a non-competitive research grant scheme based on scientific performance. Bambang explained that this scheme is designed to focus on the readiness of lecturers to produce quality research to improve the H-Index. “SRG 2026 is aimed at producing measurable and impactful research outputs, unlike conventional grants which are competition-based,” said Bambang.
In its implementation, the Professor of Mechanical Engineering of ITS emphasized a set of strategic objectives that are the focus of the scheme, namely improving the quality and productivity of lecturer research, strengthening the collaborative ecosystem, and regenerating researchers. As a first step in expanding the base of quality research through this program, ITS is targeting 1,186 research proposals to be reviewed by the end of January before entering the fund disbursement stage.
On the same occasion, ITS Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs Prof. Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi PhD explained that ITS has allocated a budget of up to IDR 83 billion to support SRG 2026. The research funding will be divided into four types: Type A at Rp 30 million with a target of a Scopus Q4 article, Type B at Rp 40 million with a target of Scopus Q3, Type C at Rp 50 million with a target of Scopus Q2 and industry collaboration recommendations, and Type D at Rp 100 million with a target of one Scopus Q1 article.

In terms of research achievements, the man who is familiarly called Hatta also said that nationally, ITS’s research performance showed quite strong achievements. In 2025, ITS was ranked second nationally as the university with the highest number of funded Research and Community Service Information Base (BIMA) proposals, namely 254 proposals. “ITS also won the Gold Winner of the 2025 Diktisaintek Award in the subcategory of Highest Research Score,” he added.
To strengthen these achievements, ITS Director of Research and Community Service (in Indonesian terms Direktur Riset dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat, abbreviated and will be referred as DRPM) Fadlilatul Taufany ST PhD explained that research performance still requires several follow-up efforts to achieve ITS’s vision of becoming one of the world’s top 300 universities. Some challenges that need to be addressed are the fact that 157 lecturers do not yet have an H-index and ITS’s publication citation rate is still ranked fourth among State-Owned Legal Entity Universities (in Indonesian terms Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Hukum, abbreviated and will be referred as PTN-BH) in Indonesia. In addition, there is a lack of support for master’s degree lecturers in improving their scientific publication performance.
To overcome these challenges, the lecturer from the Chemical Engineering Department of ITS explained that DPRM ITS supports the SRG 2026 program through various mentoring programs for lecturers. These programs include proposal writing training, scientific article writing training, premium access to Editage Plus, and proofreading services to help lecturers prepare research outputs that are ready for publication in reputable journals.
Through the implementation of SRG 2026, Taufany hopes that ITS can continue to develop into an influential campus to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education. “This program is a good strategic instrument for improving the quality of lecturers’ publications and strengthening the reputation of ITS research,” said Taufany optimistically.
