ITS Campus, ITS News – The student community receiving the Outstanding Santri Scholarship Program (PBSB) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) who are members of CSSMoRA ITS have once again demonstrated their commitment to community service (abmas) through the 2026 Abdi Pesantren program. The activity, which lasted for four days, from February 3 to 7, 2026, was held at the Al-Ishlah Islamic Boarding School, Paciran, Lamongan, East Java.
Embracing the spirit of strengthening the quality of Islamic boarding school education, Abdi Pesantren 2026 focuses on improving the academic capacity and skills of 12th-grade students to prepare them for higher education. This program not only serves as a platform for knowledge transfer but also encourages the modernization of Islamic boarding school education by strengthening academic competencies and mastering technology.
Romy Ahsan Al-Hal, the Executive Chair of Abdi Pesantren 2026, explained that the main topic covered in this activity was Quantitative Reasoning and Mathematical Knowledge (PK-PM). This material was delivered intensively to improve logical thinking, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills needed for university entrance exams.
In addition to PK-PM learning, CSSMoRA ITS also offers three skills development classes: Scientific Writing (KTI), Graphic Design, and Computer Programming. These three classes are designed to introduce 21st-century skills relevant to developments in science and technology while providing students with practical experience.
Throughout the program, the students’ enthusiasm was evident in their active participation in each learning session. Not only did they grasp the material conceptually, but they were also able to implement their learning outcomes through graphic design projects, basic programming practices, and even writing scientific papers.
Romy expressed pride in this activity, demonstrating the students’ extraordinary enthusiasm throughout the learning process. “The most profound impression is when they are able to implement the material they’ve learned into creative work and actively engage in programming practice and scientific writing,” Romy said.
The implementation of the 2026 Islamic Boarding School Community Service program also strengthened the synergy between universities and Islamic boarding schools. The Al-Ishlah Islamic Boarding School, under the leadership of Drs. KH. Muhammad Dawam Saleh, welcomed the initiative as a form of collaboration to improve the quality of education for its students. As part of strengthening institutional relations, the ITS CSSMoRA team also held a visit to the boarding school’s administrators to strengthen ties and discuss future program developments.
Romy added that the full support from the Islamic boarding school motivated the entire committee to carry out each series of activities. He believed the collaboration demonstrated that Islamic boarding schools and universities can work together to build an educational ecosystem that adapts to changing times without abandoning traditional values.
Through Abdi Pesantren 2026, CSSMoRA ITS hopes that students will be better prepared to continue their education to higher education and will possess critical thinking skills, practical skills, and technological mastery. This program also serves as a concrete implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service, through efforts to develop a generation of students who are adaptive, competent, and ready to compete in the modern era.
The community service activities of the ITS CSSMoRA team also support the achievement of several points in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 4 on Quality Education; point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; and point 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. (*)
