Surabaya, ITS News — The Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again demonstrated its commitment to the renewable energy campaign through the success of the FutureRun x SRE ITS 2026 event. Different from similar activities in previous years, this time SRE ITS took a big step to hold a fun run in the community, precisely at the Youth Hall, Surabaya, Sunday (10/5).
ITS SRE President George Gabriel Wongady Sosang explained that this activity was a collaboration between the Futurest event and one of SRE ITS’s Campaign and Education (CNE) division programs. This collaborative concept of a fun run and education is an innovative effort to bring sustainability issues beyond academics to more deeply embedded in people’s daily lives.
George revealed that he and his team used the event, attended by 640 participants from various regions in East Java, to conduct a renewable energy campaign through an exhibition. The exhibition featured several booths promoting various renewable energy topics to the public. “One of them was the ITS SRE booth, which introduced a solar energy prototype,” he added.

Adding to George’s statement, Husna Nurlaila, the Executive Chair of FutureRun x SRE ITS 2026, stated that the event also featured ITS research teams showcasing their renewable energy innovations. Teams from Antasena, Anargya, Nogogeni, and Spectron all participated in the exhibition, showcasing the research findings of ITS students to a wider audience.
Not only focusing on renewable energy, the woman known as Lala explained that the event also supported the community’s economic growth through the involvement of 20 MSME booths. Businesses from several areas in Surabaya participated by offering a variety of dishes to enliven the event. “The provision of these MSME booths is a strategy to reach a wider public,” she explained.
This activity represents a concrete effort by ITS SRE to expand its renewable energy campaign beyond academic circles and into a collaborative community movement. Furthermore, this event demonstrates ITS SRE’s commitment to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , specifically point seven on clean and affordable energy and point eleven on sustainable cities and communities.
