The ITS Mining Engineering Undergraduate Study Program (Prodi) has officially opened and is ready to accept new students through the second wave of the 2025 ITS Independent Selection (SMITS)

ITS Campus, ITS News — Supporting national energy independence and sustainable natural resource management, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) officially opened the Mining Engineering Undergraduate Study Program (Prodi). The opening of this study program is a real manifestation of ITS’s contribution as an impactful campus that in the near future is ready to accept new students in the second wave of the 2025 ITS Independent Selection.

With the support of modern facilities and cross-sector collaborative networks, ITS Chancellor Prof. Ir. Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD is committed to creating a relevant and globally competitive learning ecosystem. “The Mining Engineering Study Program is designed to produce mining engineers who are academically superior, technologically resilient, and ecologically responsible,” he explained.

In more detail, ITS Vice Chancellor I for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Nurul Widiastuti SSi MSi PhD explained that this study program is under the Department of Geomatics Engineering , Faculty of Civil, Planning and Earth Engineering (FTSPK) ITS . Although still a new study program, ITS Mining Engineering already has Good Accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Institution (LAM) Engineering through Decree No. 0335/SK/LAM Teknik/AS/VI/2025.

In general, the professor of the ITS Chemistry Department explained that the competencies expected to be achieved by graduates of this new study program are being able to understand geology in depth from general to specific. This study program also emphasizes learning related to sophisticated, efficient, and safe mining methods. “Graduates are also expected to have a strong understanding of international mining regulations and standards,” he said.

The focus of this study program is also different from the ITS Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department which focuses on the processing and extraction of mining materials. The ITS Mining Engineering Study Program is focused on exploration, planning, and operational mining of mineral resources from upstream to downstream with an emphasis on aspects of sustainability, safety, and utilization of modern technology.

The ITS Mining Engineering Undergraduate Study Program is under the auspices of the Geomatics Engineering Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Planning and Earth Sciences (FTSPK) ITS

Not only providing learning for academic competence, ITS Mining Engineering will also hone students’ soft skills in the managerial field. These skills are useful so that graduates will be ready to work with multinational companies and international organizations, as well as contribute to cross-country projects and collaborative studies.

Furthermore, according to Nurul, the ITS Mining Engineering Study Program also prepares job prospects for its graduates for various professions, including academics, mining engineers , mining geological technicians , open pit engineers , and other professions in the mining world. “ITS Mining Engineering graduates are expected to be able to contribute to the management of natural resources in the mining sector owned by Indonesia,” added Nurul.

ITS’s efforts in opening the new Mining Engineering study program are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 4 and 9. These efforts focus on quality education and industrial development, innovation, and infrastructure.
