ITS Campus, ITS News – As a pioneer institution in research and innovation, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) was partnered with the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) to hold virtual visits and talk shows as a series of Departure Preparation Program for the 184 Indonesian Education Scholarship Recipients (BPI). This activity was held in a hybrid manner in the Teleconference Room of the ITS Rectorate Building and through a Zoom Meeting, Thursday (31/3).
Director of Innovation and Science Technology Area (DIKST) ITS Agus Muhamad Hatta ST MSi Ph.D. said ITS is currently struggling to become an institution that is active in research and innovation. “In 2035, ITS will work hard to create an entrepreneurial institution. Of course, this is a big challenge for us going forward, “he said.
The lecturer who is usually called Hatta said that currently, ITS has four science and technology clusters. Among them are creative design centers that create environmentally friendly products and have high economic value, automotive centers that form energy-efficient transportation, maritime centers that support the development of Indonesian maritime technology, as well as centers of information and communication technology (ICT) and robotics that create autonomous robots and robotics. other facilities that are simple and efficient.
In this session, the doctoral alumnus of the Technological University Dublin, Ireland explained that the ITS Science Techno Park (STP) is a special area that is professionally organized to improve the welfare of the surrounding community. “Not only that, STP sustainably encourages the economy through the application of science and technology,” he explained.
The ITS Physics Engineering Department lecturer explained that ITS has contributed a lot to several Indonesian companies and countries in various scientific fields. Starting from the GESITS electric motorcycle, the construction of the exterior and interior of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) car body, autonomous boats, and various other innovative works. “We also played a big role during the Covid-19 pandemic, ITS together with Airlangga University (Unair) succeeded in creating the RAISA medical assistant robot,” he explained.
Furthermore, Hatta explained that currently, STP is working hard to educate students and education staff (tendik) to become innovators. He also argues that educating an innovator, takes several facilities and a supportive environment such as teamwork, interdisciplinary problem solving, and strong motivation.
In addition, Hatta also believes that the mindset of an innovator must be developed by oneself. Students or students must be able to have high curiosity, be easy to collaborate with, and in several other ways. “Creativity is also an important indicator of an innovator. His ability to think outside the box is unique in itself,” he said.
Finally, Hatta hopes that students, staff, and other parties can collaborate well together. “Collaboration is the key to innovator. Collaboration begins with being willing to listen and learn from other people’s different perspectives,” he concluded hopefully. (ITS Public Relation/far)
