ITS Campus, ITS News –  Currently, digitalization has spread to all fields of work, so that many industries require their employees to be able to master it. In response to this, the Mathematics Department of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) together with PT Multipolar Tbk held the 2022 Mathematics Coding Academy (MCA) activity, Friday (11/3).

This event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD) Prof. Hamzah Fansuri SSi MSi PhD, Head of the Internet of Things (IoT) Research Center and ITS Defense Technology Dr Dhany Arifianto ST MEng, Senior Vice President of PT Multipolar Tbk Achmad Fakhrudin, and several other department heads in the ITS FSAD environment.

The Head of the ITS Mathematics Department, Subchan SSi MSc PhD, said that this MCA was originally planned to be held in 2020 and 2021. However, the spike in the Covid-19 pandemic forced the activity to be postponed. ” Alhamdulillah, this year we can hold MCA with strict health protocols,” he said.

The doctoral alumnus of Cranfield University, England revealed that the purpose of holding the MCA was to serve as a forum for the development of ITS Mathematics Department students, especially in the field of coding which is closely related to the world of digitization. “With knowledge of digitization, job prospects for students will be wide open,” he explained.

Just to note, coding is one of the computer sciences that intersects in software and functions as a giver of orders to the computer how to manage things according to the wishes of users such as data analysts, game developers, and so on.

Subchan added that the cooperation with PT Multipolar has been going on for two years. “Before the pandemic, MCA had been held and attended by students from the Mathematics Department and other departments,” he explained. In addition to MCA, the result of the collaboration carried out by the ITS Mathematics Department with PT Multipolar is the construction of a co-working space on the fourth-floor building of the ITS Mathematics Department.

Meanwhile, Achmad Fakhrudin said that this collaboration was aimed to develop talents in the Mathematics Department. “At PT Multipolar, there are lots of ITS alumni, especially from the Mathematics Department who excel in big data management,” said the man who is familiarly called Fakhrudin. Not only that, he explained that this collaboration was used as a forum for students to prepare themselves with digitalization when working later.

Furthermore, Dhany Arifianto responded that current digitalization can be implemented in the concept of defending the country. Students will later make innovations that are useful for agency and state data security. “It’s time for Indonesia to process and maintain the security of their data. There is no need to depend on other countries,” he reminded.

Meanwhile, Fakhrudin hopes that with this MCA, PT Multipolar can optimize the talents of the Mathematics Department students. He also hopes that further research collaborations with the ITS Mathematics Department can be established in the future.

Not only Fakhrudin, but Subchan also hopes that with the coding concentration at the ITS Mathematics Department, students can be skilled not only in theoretical mathematics but also skilled in programming or digitization. (ITS Public Relations)
