Researchers from the Indonesian-French maritime research collaboration discussed various topics related to the marine and earth sciences at GRIT ITS.

ITS Campus, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is encouraging the strengthening of research collaboration between Indonesia and France through the Joint Workshop on Marine and Earth Sciences 2026. The forum took place in the SA Room, 1st floor of the ITS Rectorate Building, Monday (5/10).

The event was attended by researchers from ITS and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Also present were representatives from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), and the Naval Group, to discuss the development of marine and earth research.

ITS Rector Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati, ST, MScEng, PhD, stated that this workshop aims to further strengthen scientific and technological ties between the two countries. The event is part of a multi-party collaboration, with ITS as co-organizer and host.

ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD said that this workshop is important to address the complexity of marine and earth issues.

According to him, ITS sees the forum as a momentum to address the complexity of marine and terrestrial issues that require cross-institutional collaboration. “ITS is ready to open laboratories and research facilities, including the Marine Science Techno Park , for collaborative research, as well as exploring schemes such as joint mentoring of doctoral students and joint laboratories,” Bambang said.

Meanwhile, BRIN’s Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation, Prof. Dr. Agus Haryono, expressed BRIN’s commitment to supporting Indonesian and French researchers in producing discoveries and innovations. “Support for both countries will be through a joint funding scheme , ” he said.

Following the exploratory discussion, attendees were invited to tour the ITS Research & Technology Innovation (GRIT) Gallery in the ITS Research Center Building. In addition to the tour, various topics were discussed, including maritime technology, oceanography, and ocean observation; earth science and disaster mitigation; the atmosphere, environment, and ecosystem resilience; and digital transformation.

BRIN Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation, Prof. Dr. Agus Haryono, conveyed BRIN’s commitment to supporting Indonesian and French researchers through a joint funding scheme.

Going forward, ITS hopes this workshop will result in joint scientific proposals and publications, researcher and student exchanges, shared use of research facilities and data, and collaborative technology development with industry. This aligns with ITS’s commitment to connecting science with technology and innovation that can deliver tangible benefits to society.

These efforts to strengthen cross-national and cross-disciplinary research collaborations also support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, point 14 on Marine Ecosystems, and point 17 on Cooperation to Achieve the Goals.
