ITS Campus, ITS News — The work of students from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again received national recognition. This time, the work of Syahidan Nur Habibie Ash-Shidieq, a student from the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, was selected as one of the best photos in Kompas.id’s Selected Photos for Period I, May 2026.

The student, known as Hidan, explained that “Photo Pilihan Klik” is a photography appreciation column regularly published by Kompas.id with a different theme each month. In the May 2026 edition, the column featured the theme “Energy,” highlighting the energy crisis, energy efficiency, and renewable energy utilization. “I submitted photos that align with the energy theme for that period,” he said.

Hidan explained that his photograph, “Benefits of Agrivoltaics,” depicts a vegetable harvest at the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator Indonesia (REIDI) ITS site. The photo shows agricultural activities taking place beneath solar panels. The portrait illustrates the dual purpose of utilizing the land: food production and renewable energy.

The student, who has had a passion for photography since high school, explained that he chose the object because it had a strong narrative value. He believes the agrivoltaic system at ITS’s REIDI is not only visually appealing but also demonstrates the energy innovations being developed on campus. “This object is interesting because it showcases ITS’s energy innovation,” said the 2023 student.

Furthermore, the photos also demonstrate how renewable energy technology can be applied in everyday life. “This photo can demonstrate that ITS has sustainable energy innovations,” said the ITS Online Coverage Coordinator.

As part of the campus news team, ITS Online, Hidan explained that efforts to promote ITS’s potential extend beyond written news. He believes photography is also an effective medium for capturing moments and crafting visuals that tell a story to readers. “With photos, we can tell stories without needing lots of captions ,” he added.

This achievement has fueled the Batu student’s enthusiasm to continue exploring the world of photography. Going forward, he plans to consistently submit work to various opportunities, both through photography columns and other relevant competitions. He believes this experience will encourage other ITS Online members to continue creating and further promote ITS’s positive image.

Hidan also advised ITS students interested in photography not to hesitate to try it. He believes that photography skills develop through experience and the courage to continue taking photos on various occasions. ” Just give it a try and gain more photography experience,” he advised.

This achievement demonstrates ITS students’ ability to promote campus innovation through visual works that resonate with societal issues. Through this agrivoltaic portrait , Hidan’s work supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 7, which concerns Clean and Affordable Energy. (*)
