Professor Long D. Nghiem is a Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney and Director of the Centre for Technology in Water and Wastewater. His work is driven by the goal of advancing knowledge and technologies that enhance access to clean water and effective wastewater treatment for societal benefit. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from UNSW Australia and earned his PhD from the University of Wollongong. He further broadened his academic training through appointments and collaborations with Yale University, the University of Melbourne, and the University of New South Wales, and has held visiting professorships at the Colorado School of Mines and the Technical University of Munich. Professor Nghiem has supervised more than 20 doctoral graduates and led numerous competitive research projects exceeding AUD 3 million in total funding. His research focuses on resource recovery, waste-to-energy systems, and innovative water and wastewater treatment technologies, and his contributions have been widely recognized through awards, editorial roles, and engagement with policy and industry.
Professor Fredy Kurniawan is a Professor in Chemistry at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Indonesia, with strong expertise in analytical chemistry and electrochemical systems. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from ITS, followed by a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Institut Teknologi Bandung. He earned his doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in Chemistry from Universität Regensburg, Germany. Throughout his academic career, Professor Kurniawan has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and the development of advanced analytical methodologies. His research interests encompass chemo- and biosensor development, nanotechnology-based analytical platforms, electrochemistry, and modern analytical chemistry. His work focuses on integrating functional materials with electrochemical techniques to enhance sensitivity, selectivity, and practical applicability in chemical and biological analysis. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals indexed in national and international databases and continues to contribute to the advancement of sensor technologies and nanomaterials for analytical and environmental applications.
Dr. Kenta Tanaka is an Assistant Professor at Okayama University, Japan, specializing in synthetic organic chemistry. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Nihon University, followed by a Master’s and Doctoral degree from Yokohama National University. After completing his PhD, he accumulated diverse academic experience through postdoctoral and faculty appointments at Yokohama National University, Tokyo University of Science, and his current institution. Dr. Tanaka’s research focuses on the development of innovative synthetic methodologies using photoredox catalysis, electrochemical synthesis, and flow reaction systems. His work emphasizes the use of visible-light-driven processes to achieve efficient and sustainable chemical transformations. By integrating photocatalysts with modern reaction engineering approaches, he aims to expand the toolbox of synthetic organic chemistry while addressing challenges related to reaction efficiency and scalability. His research contributes to the advancement of environmentally conscious synthesis strategies and next-generation chemical manufacturing.
Prof. Dr. Sannakaisa Virtanen is a Professor of Surface Science and Corrosion at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen–Nürnberg (FAU), Germany, where she leads the Corrosion Research Group within the Chair for Surface Science and Corrosion. Her research focuses on the fundamental understanding of corrosion mechanisms and surface phenomena in advanced materials, with strong emphasis on materials performance in demanding environments.
Her main research areas include corrosion and surface modification of metallic materials, corrosion protection strategies, high-temperature oxidation of alloys, and the development of protective coatings, particularly for light metals such as magnesium alloys. In addition, her work extends to materials in medicine, investigating interactions between implant materials and biological environments to improve durability and biocompatibility. Through interdisciplinary approaches combining materials science, electrochemistry, and surface characterization, her research contributes to advancing materials reliability in energy, engineering, and biomedical applications
Professor Audrey Villot is a Full Professor at IMT Atlantique, France, within the Department of Energy Systems and Environment and the GEPEA research laboratory (UMR CNRS 6144). She obtained her engineering degree in Environmental Engineering and a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Biotechnology from the University of Chambéry, followed by a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Savoie University. She was later accredited to supervise research (HDR) in Process Engineering at the University of Nantes. Her academic career at IMT Atlantique progressed from Associate Professor to Full Professor, alongside active involvement in teaching and program coordination. Professor Villot’s research focuses on biomass valorization, particularly the conversion of residual biomass into carbon-based materials and energy carriers, as well as gas treatment and purification processes. Her work integrates reaction engineering, material characterization, and environmental assessment to support sustainable resource recovery and circular economy strategies.
