Secretary of the Naval Academy Institution (AAL) of the Indonesian Navy together with the Rector and ITS Leaders
Surabaya, IT Journalistic — As part of the vibrant Semester Opening 2026 series, the Department of Information Technology (DTI), Faculty of Electrical Technology and Intelligent Informatics (FTEIC), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), held a student character reinforcement session on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the 2nd Floor Auditorium of Tower 2 ITS. The session featured senior officers from the Indonesian Navy.
The Secretary of the Akademi Angkatan Laut (AAL), Rear Admiral TNI Dr. Asep Iwa Soemantri, S.E., M.M., M.Tr.Opsla, delivered a briefing titled “Strengthening the Character of Future Leader Cadres.” In his presentation, he emphasized that a technology expert is not only required to excel in technical abilities (hard skills), but must also possess integrity, discipline, and strong leadership character to face global challenges.

Undergraduate students of Information Technology ITS from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts who attended the session showed great enthusiasm during the interactive discussion. Many raised questions about how to implement military leadership values within the technology sector and student organizations. The presence of Indonesian Navy officers, including Colonel (E) Juliver H. Pardede, Head of the Electronics Department of AAL, and Lieutenant Colonel (Marine) Akhmad Kharis Mukhyiddin, Head of the Marine Department of AAL, further enriched the discussion on the importance of cross-sector collaboration for national progress.

The Undergraduate Program in Information Technology at FTEIC ITS, which has achieved the “Excellent” (UNGGUL) accreditation, continues to innovate in its learning system. Student readiness and mental health receive special attention through psychological assistance and the availability of a digital mental health assessment portal.
This activity aligns with DTI ITS’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through the appreciation of academic achievements, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions through the development of leadership character with integrity. Furthermore, this collaboration reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through synergy between educational institutions and national defense institutions.
