Surabaya, IT Journalistic — On Friday, May 9, 2025, the Department of Information Technology at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) held an Open Talk event as part of the “Jumat Berseri” (Joyful Friday) program — an initiative aimed at strengthening the relationship between lecturers, academic staff, and students. This time, the event took the form of an open discussion held in the Multipurpose Hall on the 11th floor of Tower 2 Building, with the Head of the Department, Mr. Hari Ginardi, as the main speaker.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Hari explained that he chose a relaxed, conversational format to create a more open and engaging atmosphere that encourages two-way communication. “This Open Talk is a moment for all of us to align our vision, share aspirations, and understand the future direction of our department,” he stated.
The main topic of the discussion focused on the department’s strategic plans toward achieving national and international accreditation in 2025. Mr. Hari acknowledged that after significant acceleration over the past 2–3 years, the department is now facing the risk of stagnation. “If we don’t maintain our momentum, we could enter a saturation phase. That’s why we need ambitious targets to keep our students’ spirits high,” he said.

In addition to outlining future departmental plans, Mr. Hari also shared a deeper message with the academic community. He expressed his hope for a happier ecosystem while emphasizing the importance of hard and smart work. “I want all of us to be happy, but being happy alone isn’t enough. We must work as hard and as smart as possible so we can truly enjoy the results together,” he added.
From the student perspective, enthusiasm for the event was evident, with the room filled with attendees. One student said they joined the Open Talk to better understand the department’s vision and internal structure. “I wanted to know where the department is heading, and who the people behind the scenes are that make our learning experience so comfortable,” the student said.
The student also expressed appreciation for the hard work of lecturers and staff and proposed improvements to the learning system and department facilities. The goal is to enable students to produce impactful work recognized on an international scale. They emphasized the importance of events like this in broadening students’ understanding of the department’s internal systems and long-term strategic goals.
Participants widely agreed that the Open Talk was insightful and engaging. It provided clarity on how the department operates and the strategic path it is taking. The open and straightforward presentation from the Head of the Department, combined with active student participation, made the event both informative and memorable.
With the success of this event, the Open Talk by the Department of Information Technology at ITS has proven to be more than just a forum for sharing aspirations — it is a space for uniting steps toward a brighter, globally recognized future.
