Documentation of the collaboration between ITS and ITK through the Ethical AI Mentorship Program.
Balikpapan, IT Journalistic — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), through its Department of Information Technology (DTI), continues to strengthen inter-university synergy through a collaborative initiative with Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK). The activity, held on Thursday (October 16) at the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) Building of ITK in Balikpapan, serves as a follow-up to the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between the two institutions in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and ethics.
This partnership focuses on a technical mentoring program for vocational high school (SMK) teachers and students in East Kalimantan. Through this initiative, ITS and ITK aim to build understanding of the wise, ethical, and socially responsible use of AI technology.
Representing ITS were Dr. Tech. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi, M.Sc. and Dr. Ir. Henning Titi Ciptaningtyas, S.Kom., M.Kom., both lecturers from the Department of Information Technology. From ITK, attendees included Prof. Erma Suryani, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Vice Rector I), Ir. Khakim Ghozali, M.MT. (Vice Rector II), and Adi Mahmud Jaya Marindra, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. (Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology/FSTI).
According to Adi Mahmud Jaya Marindra, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., this collaboration represents a strategic step to strengthen a culture of academic ethics and cooperation. “This program does not only focus on the utilization of technology but also instills values of responsibility in its use. We hope this collaboration will inspire the education sector in East Kalimantan,” he explained.

As part of the event series, Fuad Dary Rosyadi, S.Kom., M.Kom., delivered a teaching session on the responsible application of AI in education. The training, which combined interactive and practical approaches, was enthusiastically received by the participating teachers and students.
This visit not only strengthened institutional relations between ITS and ITK but also opened opportunities for collaboration in research, community service, and the development of intelligent technology–based curricula. Both institutions agreed to make this collaboration a concrete step toward promoting inclusive, innovative, and ethical higher education.

This initiative also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Through this effort, ITS and ITK reaffirm their commitment to building a learning ecosystem that promotes sustainable innovation while fostering ethical awareness in the use of technology.
