Surabaya, IT Journalistic —The Department of Information Technology (IT) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is massively conducting a Psychology Assessment for all DTI students. Collaborating with the ITS Medical Center and fully supported by the ITS Parents Association (IKOMA), this program is not just a screening but a revolutionary breakthrough to measure stress and anxiety levels, while solidifying ITS’s commitment to promoting a crucial concept: ‘life study balance’.

This groundbreaking initiative stems from a deep awareness of the importance of mental health, especially for Generation Z, who are often faced with immense academic pressure. According to Prof. Dr. Ir. Diana Purwitasari S.Kom., M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Technology and Intelligent Computing (FTEIC) at ITS, the main goal of this assessment is to get a comprehensive picture of students’ mental conditions. “We want students to be more proactive in the future. With this session, they can become more aware of their mental state, even when they feel they are doing just fine,” explained Prof. Dr. Ir. Diana Purwitasari S.Kom., M.Sc. She also hopes this program will become a benchmark and inspiration for other departments at ITS.

The students of the Department of Information Technology ITS show their seriousness and enthusiasm while filling out the psychology assessment instruments as a first step in understanding their own mental health.

The Head of the ITS Department of Information Technology, Dr.techn. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi M.Sc., affirmed that this assessment is an integral part of the department’s strategic program to ensure students can study in a ‘happy’ state. “Our motto is life study balance. We want to measure the level of ‘happiness’ or stress among students at the beginning of the new academic year, before they enter the phase of exams and heavy assignments,” said Dr.techn. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi M.Sc. He added that this program is also an effort to familiarize students with psychology assessments, so they will not hesitate to seek professional help in the future.

From a student’s perspective, one of the participants, Rafi, honestly expressed his mixed feelings while taking the assessment—happy, sad, worried, scared, and curious all at once. He highlighted one question that was very memorable for him about obstacles in completing college assignments, which he felt was very relevant to the academic challenges he was experiencing. “This activity is very helpful because it makes us more aware of the stress levels we are experiencing,” Rafi said, while hoping that the assessment results will give him a deeper understanding of his own condition.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Diana Purwitasari S.Kom., M.Sc. (Dean of FTEIC ITS) and Dr.techn. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi M.Sc. (Head of the Department of Information Technology) are directly monitoring the implementation of the student psychology assessment.

With this ambitious step, the ITS TI Department takes on the role of being at the forefront of ensuring its students’ mental well-being. This initiative not only shows the institution’s commitment to the quality of education but is also aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 3, which is “Good Health and Well-being”. Specifically, this program focuses on ensuring health and well-being for all, becoming a tangible example of how educational institutions can actively contribute to creating a supportive academic environment, which is a crucial foundation for future technological advancements.
