Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) organized a Guest Lecture focused on enhancing student competence in scientific writing in the digital age. Held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the ITS Library Seminar Room, the event featured Eva Mursidah, S.I.PUST., as the guest speaker. This activity was part of the Scientific Writing course, led by Dr. Ir. Henning Titi Ciptaningtyas, S.Kom, M.Kom., who was also present to oversee the session.
With a focus on two main topics, “E-Resource Class” and “The Use of AI for Ethical Academic Writing,” the event aimed to equip students with the skills to responsibly utilize digital resources and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In her session, Eva Mursidah emphasized that while technological advancements, particularly in Generative AI, offer remarkable convenience, they also bring ethical challenges that must be navigated wisely.

Students were guided to understand how AI can serve as a supportive tool for brainstorming, refining writing, and checking grammar, rather than as a substitute for critical thinking and originality. The interactive discussion on ethical boundaries, such as avoiding plagiarism and upholding academic integrity, was a central highlight of the lecture. This initiative was designed to ensure that students are not only technically proficient but also possess a strong ethical foundation in their scholarly work.
Through this event, the ITS Department of Information Technology demonstrates its commitment to preparing adaptive graduates with high integrity. This commitment aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the initiative supports SDG 4: Quality Education by ensuring students acquire relevant skills to enhance the quality of their academic work. Furthermore, by providing training on the ethical use of AI, the event also contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by fostering a culture of responsible innovation. Thus, the department is not only producing competent graduates but is also actively shaping a sustainable future for academia and technology.
