Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology (DTI), Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FTEIC), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), welcomed a visit from PT Untung Bersama Sejahtera (UBS Gold) on Monday (October 12, 2026). Held in Room 701, 7th Floor, ITS Tower 2 Building, the meeting discussed industrial digital transformation needs as well as exploration of collaboration in education, research, and student competency development.

The meeting served as a discussion space for both parties to bridge industrial technological needs with the academic and research competencies possessed by DTI ITS. The discussions covered application development, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), automation, and industrial process monitoring.

The collaboration opportunities discussed included internship programs, practical work (KP), final projects (TA), and capstone projects. Through this collaboration, real-world problems faced by the industry have the potential to become topics for student learning and research. Consequently, students can develop solutions based on industry needs while gaining experience in applying the knowledge learned during lectures.

According to Anas Machfudy Al Junaedi, the meeting between DTI ITS and PT UBS Gold aims to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia. “Actually, this meeting between DTI and UBS itself aims to foster collaboration between industry and academics,” Anas stated.

He explained that real-world problems in the industry can become opportunities for students to develop solutions through their final projects. “So, the existing problems in the industry can become something we can help solve,” he explained.

This collaboration has the potential to support the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi) through joint research and the adjustment of learning materials to meet industry needs. For students, this cooperation opens up opportunities for internships, real-world problem-based final project topics, and data collection while maintaining company authorization and confidentiality.

Herry Gunawan noted that ITS and PT UBS Gold have maintained a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) since 2023, which was renewed in 2026. The meeting discussed the implementation of this cooperation, including internship opportunities—typically lasting one semester in the seventh semester—guest lectures, and industrial visits. The internship recruitment mechanism still needs to be confirmed by UBS Gold.

As a follow-up, both parties can explore pilot projects tailored to the company’s needs and the competencies of DTI ITS. This plan is expected to strengthen the synergy between industry and academia, aligning with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
