E-Resource and Reference Manager Workshop Strengthens the Quality of Scientific Writing among DTI ITS Students

Guest Lecture Workshop on E-Resource and Reference Manager held at the 2nd Floor Auditorium of the ITS Library on Monday (2/3).

Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology (DTI), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), organized a Guest Lecture titled Workshop on E-Resource as part of the Scientific Writing A and B courses. The event was conducted offline on Monday (2/3) at the 2nd Floor Auditorium of the ITS Library and was attended by students currently enrolled in the Scientific Writing course.

The workshop featured Ms. Eva Mursidah, S.I.Pust., as the keynote speaker. In her presentation, she introduced the ITS Library as a Knowledge and Happiness Centre that provides various facilities, collections, and services to support the academic needs of the academic community. Students were introduced to a wide range of scholarly information sources, including e-books, e-journals, online databases, as well as repositories of undergraduate theses, master’s theses, dissertations, and research reports accessible through the ITS Library portal.

The workshop aimed to enhance students’ understanding of how to optimally utilize the ITS Library’s facilities and services, particularly in supporting scientific writing and research processes. In addition to the material presentation, the session included a live demonstration on how to search for scientific journals, e-resources, and the ITS repository through the OPAC system and the library portal. Students were given technical guidance on service access procedures, the use of international e-journals, and strategies for finding relevant and credible scholarly references.

Moreover, participants received an explanation of the information literacy and reference programs designed to strengthen their skills in information searching and selecting appropriate reference source. Understanding the use of a reference manager became one of the key highlights of the workshop, considering its important role in helping students manage references and systematically and efficiently generate bibliographies.

Through this activity, DTI ITS students are expected to improve their skills in searching, evaluating, and utilizing scholarly references effectively. Optimizing library facilities is anticipated to support the preparation of high-quality, systematic scientific papers that comply with established academic standards.

The relevance of this activity aligns with the commitment of the ITS Department of Information Technology to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. Strengthening information literacy and scientific writing skills is an essential part of creating a high-quality and sustainable learning process. Furthermore, the utilization of digital library infrastructure and access to international scholarly databases also contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by reinforcing a culture of research and innovation within the higher education environment.
