Surabaya, IT Journalistic — The Department of Information Technology at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) welcomed a special visit from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia on Friday (4/7). The visit was led by the Deputy of Kemenparekraf and received by the Head of the Department, Dr. Hari Purnomo, along with faculty members and department staff.

The visit served as a platform for dialogue between higher education and government institutions, aiming to strengthen synergy in the development of the creative digital ecosystem. During the session, both parties engaged in an open and constructive discussion covering various academic and operational aspects related to innovation, research, and national development.

“I’d like to thank Mr. Hari and the team for the warm welcome. Everything today was memorable, but what impressed me most was discovering the wide range of digital products developed at the Department of Information Technology ITS, which hold great potential to be commercialized and contribute to Indonesia’s digital economy,” said the Deputy during the session.

One of the featured innovations presented during the visit was the Senopati System — an integrated AI-based platform designed to support document management, reporting, and internal communication through chatbot functionality. The system, which is already in use in several institutions including Jawa Pos and new student admissions portals, sparked interest from the Kemenparekraf team for potential adaptation within their own operations.

In return, Dr. Hari Purnomo expressed his appreciation for the ministry’s approach, emphasizing how the discussion allowed for a holistic understanding of various issues faced at the campus level.

“What surprised us most was how accessible and responsive the Kemenparekraf team was. We often imagine ministries as distant and formal, but today’s discussion went deep into the very real, day-to-day challenges we encounter on campus. It was enlightening and complete,” he stated.

As the visit concluded, both sides shared their hopes for the future. Dr. Hari highlighted the need to shift student mindsets from merely acquiring technical skills for employment to utilizing them as tools for creating value and building new ventures in the digital era. Meanwhile, the Deputy encouraged students to remain consistent in their pursuits, particularly in areas like cybersecurity and creative technologies, which are increasingly gaining global relevance.

“We hope that students with creative ideas, especially in information technology, can continue to innovate and even turn those ideas into profitable ventures. Beyond that, their work can have a meaningful impact — for instance, in strengthening Indonesia’s cybersecurity landscape,” he added.

This visit marked the beginning of a potential long-term collaboration, bridging academic excellence with policy support, and driving forward Indonesia’s vision for a strong, inclusive, and digitally-driven creative economy.
