Group photo of graduates and lecturers from the Department of Information Technology, capturing a proud moment at the end of an academic journey full of struggle and togetherness
Surabaya, IT Journalistic — An atmosphere of emotion and enthusiasm enveloped Tower 2 of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) on Sunday (4/13/2025) during the 131st Graduation Ceremony at the Department of Information Technology. With a spirit of togetherness, impressive academic achievements, and stories of perseverance throughout their studies, this moment marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new journey for the graduates.
When interviewed by the IT Journalistic team, the Head of the Department of Information Technology, Dr.techn. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi, M.Sc, expressed his pride in this year’s graduates’ achievements. Although the number of graduates was not large—only ten people—their accomplishments were considered extraordinary, especially in terms of study duration and academic excellence. According to Mr. Hari, while the number of graduates this time was not as many as in other periods because it was not an even semester, what was impressive was the quality and efficiency of the graduates’ study. “The average study duration of our graduates was only 7.6 semesters,” he stated.

He also expressed his hope that the graduates would continue their journey, whether by working, becoming entrepreneurs, or pursuing further studies at the master’s level. Mr. Hari also highlighted the remarkable cohesion of the class of 2021, known for beginning their studies amid the pandemic. Although they initially only met online, their unity was never in doubt. “Their spirit is extraordinary; they wanted to graduate together in 8 semesters. That shows a high sense of togetherness and solidarity,” Mr. Hari remarked.
Mrs. Henning, one of the thesis advisors, admitted being amazed by the creativity of the graduation committee and the students’ enthusiasm in completing their final projects. “They were always eager for weekly consultations, quick with revisions, and didn’t hesitate to find me wherever I was,” she said with a laugh. Mrs. Henning also advised the graduates to be honest, work hard, and eventually return to ITS to share their knowledge with their juniors.
The parents also felt a sense of pride. One of them was Mr. Johnson Edward Sitompul, father of Fransiskus Benyamin Sitompul. “I came from Bandung specifically for this moment. My son is my youngest. This is not the end, but the beginning of their life journey,” he expressed emotionally. He advised the graduates to remain devoted to their parents. “A parent’s prayer is the beginning of their blessing in life.”

Two graduates, Raditya Pratama (Radit) and Wisnuyasha Faizal (Inu), shared their experiences during their education. For Radit, the most memorable moment was his final thesis defense. “I was so nervous. But I finally passed. I’m grateful to graduate cum laude, and all my friends are amazing,” he said. Radit, who will continue his studies at ITS, initially felt disappointed about entering through the Independent pathway. However, he now feels grateful because that experience taught him many valuable lessons.
Meanwhile, Inu considered moments of togetherness such as lab work and vacations with friends as the most memorable. “All struggles feel lighter when faced together,” he said. Radit conveyed a message to friends who are still studying: “Don’t just follow the current, find your passion.” Inu added, “Stay motivated for friends who are still struggling. Don’t waste time, and explore as much as possible.”
The W-131 graduation ceremony became a meaningful conclusion, not only for the graduates but also for the department, lecturers, and families. From the struggles of online learning at the beginning to the emotional moments toward the end, the togetherness and strong determination of this class have created an unforgettable story.
