Dear ITS Students,
There are thousands of small islands scattered in our planet, including those in the Pacific, Indian Ocean, also in East & South East Asian waters. Indonesia represents such an archipelagic portrait with its over 17.000 islands, where 3.000 of them are inhabited. Most of those small islands are rich of natural resources and biodiversity. Marine tourism and fishery have become main income for people living on those islands.
Nevertheless, those small islands are exposed to many challenges, from climate chage till disasters, from poverty till poor healthcare and education, from energy till envoronmental hazards, from souvereignity till piracy. This SIDI Conference aims to be a platform to exchange ideas and views, in order to enhance the development of those islands in a sustainable way. We invite researchers, decision makers, government officials, post-graduate students, businesses and not-for profit organizations to participate, see http://sidi.its.ac.id/conference/
The topics for this conference are, and not limited to: 1. Biodiversity and marine tourism 2. Environment and fisheries 3. Traditional shipping and small island connectivity 4.
