OS26 Youth Video Competition 2026: Showcase Your Vision for a Secure and Sustainable Space Future

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) invites young people from around the world to participate in the OS26 Youth Video Competition 2026, an international competition designed to amplify youth perspectives in global space security discussions.

Inspired by the principles of the Outer Space Treaty, this competition encourages the next generation of engineers, scientists, and researchers to contribute innovative ideas for maintaining outer space as a secure, peaceful, and sustainable environment for all humankind.

Selected winners will be invited to attend the OS26 Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, where their videos will be showcased to an international audience and featured across UNIDIR platforms.


Competition Theme

Participants are invited to create an original video addressing the following theme:

How can innovations in space systems and architecture contribute to a more secure and sustainable outer space environment?

UNIDIR encourages participants to showcase their original research and technical ideas that address current space security and sustainability challenges.

Possible topics include:

  • Shared technical standards
  • Cyber-resilient space architecture
  • Integrity and security of data links
  • Transparency-enhancing technologies
  • Open-source monitoring frameworks
  • Space sustainability innovations
  • Other technical solutions that strengthen global stability in space

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Aged between 18 and 25 years old
  • Open to participants from any country
  • Only one submission per participant
  • Submission must be original work created by the entrant

AI Usage Policy

Generative AI may not be used to create the core narrative, script, or presenter likeness.

AI-assisted tools may only be used for technical visualizations, such as:

  • Schematics
  • Conceptual design renderings
  • Technical animations

Any AI use must be disclosed in the submission form. Fully AI-generated videos are not permitted and will result in disqualification.


Video Requirements

  • Duration: 1–3 minutes
  • Format: .mp4
  • Audio, visuals, and subtitles must be included in a single file
  • Videos may be submitted in any language
  • Non-English videos must include English subtitles
  • Entries must comply with copyright regulations

Selection Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Originality and creativity
  • Relevance to the competition theme
  • Clarity and technical quality
  • Understanding of space security issues
  • Engaging and effective presentation

Entries will be reviewed by a diverse panel of judges from UNIDIR and CIGI.


Awards and Benefits

Selected winners will receive:

  • A fully funded trip to Geneva, Switzerland
  • Round-trip economy airfare
  • Accommodation during the OS26 Conference
  • Per diem support for selected meals
  • Opportunity to present their work during the conference
  • Feature publication on the UNIDIR website
  • Opportunity to develop a commentary article based on their video and conference experience
