WAEJUC Research Summit 2025: ITS Strengthens Global Collaboration

WAEJUC Research Summit 2025 Welcomed

The Director of Research and Community Service at ITS, Fadlilatul Taufany, S.T., Ph.D., along with the Indonesian delegation, was warmly welcomed by WAEJUC at Murdoch University.

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) strengthened its role as a global research partner at WAEJUC Research Summit 2025. The event took place in Perth, Australia, from April 28 to May 1, 2025. It brought together academics from East Java and Western Australia for research collaborations. The summit aimed to address global challenges through sustainable innovation.

Welcome and ITS Research Presentation

On April 28, 2025, WAEJUC warmly welcomed the Indonesian delegation, including ITS, at Murdoch University. During the opening session, Dr. Fadlilatul Taufany, S.T., Ph.D., represented ITS. He presented ITS’s research strengths, particularly in renewable energy (SDG 7), food security, and agriculture (SDG 2). Moreover, Dr. Taufany emphasized ITS’s ongoing international collaborations and its readiness to expand partnerships for impactful research outcomes.

On the same day, matchmaking sessions were held between Indonesian and Australian universities, fostering strategic cross-disciplinary discussions to create research collaboration plans. In the evening, delegates attended a networking reception hosted by the Australian Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) at Moore Exchange Tower. This event brought together academics and industry players to discuss partnership opportunities in innovation and research.

Research Discussions and REIDI Initiative at Curtin University

Fadlilatul Taufany introduced REIDI initiative

ITS introduced the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator of Indonesia (REIDI) initiative and attracted interest in renewable energy research collaboration at Curtin University.

On April 29, 2025, the event continued at Curtin University, where ITS introduced the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator of Indonesia (REIDI), a flagship project integrating renewable energy technologies in Indonesia. The project garnered attention from various parties in Australia interested in collaborating in the renewable energy field.

A panel discussion explored various research funding schemes and shared experiences from Indonesian academics who have conducted research in Australia. The event concluded with a reflection and formulation of next steps for establishing concrete collaboration.

Campus and Cultural Exploration

On April 30, 2025, the WAEJUC delegation visited Edith Cowan University and enjoyed a campus tour and presentations from local researchers. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the WA Museum Boola Bardip as part of a cultural introduction. The activities were followed by student presentations and an open discussion on exploring opportunities for student exchange programs and research collaboration.

Closing and Appreciation

On May 1, 2025, the event started with a visit to the University of Notre Dame. Participants attended research presentations and a campus tour, showcasing potential for cross-institutional collaboration. The WAEJUC Research Summit 2025 concluded with a closing ceremony organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Western Australia and the Australia Indonesia Institute. During this occasion, Dr. Fadlilatul Taufany and Sally Dawkins, Director of DFAT Western Australia, discussed the long-term direction of cooperation between ITS and various institutions in Australia.

ITS’s Commitment to Global Collaboration

Through active participation in the WAEJUC Research Summit 2025, ITS expanded its international research collaboration network. Additionally, this involvement reinforced ITS’s position as a global research partner committed to sustainable innovation. Furthermore, ITS’s focus on renewable energy and food security contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).

In closing, ITS extends its appreciation to WAEJUC, AIBC, DFAT, and the host universities for their warm welcome.

The Indonesian delegation values the collaboration extended to them, strengthening international research relations.
