Industry and Business Internship Program (Magang DUDI)

The Industry and Business Internship Program is an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between academic education and the professional world. It provides students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom within the context of real-world industry or business environments.

This program connects higher education institutions with companies or industrial organizations to offer hands-on experience relevant to students’ fields of study.

Objectives of the Internship Program:

  1. To provide students with real-world work experience

  2. To enhance students’ skills and competencies needed in the industry

  3. To help students better prepare for entering the job market

  4. To build valuable professional networks for future careers

  5. To improve graduate quality by integrating academic theory with practical experience

  General Guidelines

General Guidelines

The implementation of the Industry and Business Internship Program (Magang DUDI) refers to:

  • Minister of Education and Culture Regulation (Permendikbud) No. 53 of 2023

  • Permendikbud No. 63 of 2024

  • ITS Rector’s Regulation No. 23 of 2021

Key notes for the Magang DUDI Program:

  • The Magang DUDI Program is different from the regular internship or practical work course (Kerja Praktik/Magang).
  • The program consists of Credit-Converted Internships (SKS Conversion) and SKEM-Converted Internships.
  • Internships under this program must be conducted offline (Work From Office/WFO).
  • The internship duration must be at least 3 months and up to 6 months.
  • This program is intended for active ITS undergraduate (S1) and diploma (D4) students.
  • During the internship period, students are granted full-time permission to work off-campus, based on agreed terms and applicable regulations.
  • For SKS-Converted Internships, students are required to convert their internship activities into course credits, aligned with the Intended Learning Outcomes (CPL/CPMK) of relevant courses.
  • Students must be supervised by both an Industry Mentor (from the partner organization) and an Academic Supervisor (from the department/study program).
  • Before the internship begins, the industry partner and ITS are required to create and formally approve a Cooperation Agreement (PKS), in accordance with the 2024 Internship Guidelines by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbudristek) and ITS Rector’s Regulation No. 23 of 2021.

Internship Periods:

  • Even Semester: January – June

  • Odd Semester: July – December

This regulation governs the implementation of higher education quality assurance according to national education standards, including the quality assurance system and provisions related to the Student Internship Program.

For Departments/Study Programs:

For Students:

  • Gain both hard skills (technical abilities, complex problem-solving, and analytical thinking) and soft skills (work ethics, communication, teamwork).

  • A channel to observe and learn industrial processes.

  • A source of data and insights for final thesis projects.

  • Firsthand experience of the professional working environment.

  • Receive an industrial certificate or letter of internship completion.

  • Internship activities can be converted into academic course credits (SKS) or SKEM credits.

For Industry Partners:

  • Access to insights or alternative problem-solving approaches from the academic perspective of interns’ study programs.

  • Support in addressing industrial challenges by leveraging the academic knowledge of student interns.

  • An effective channel to identify and recruit qualified future employees or talented individuals early on, potentially reducing the need for Management Trainee programs.

  • A valuable opportunity for company branding and visibility within academic institutions.

  Collaborative Internship

The Collaborative Internship Program is an internship scheme where recruitment is carried out independently by industry partners in collaboration with PK2 ITS and/or relevant academic departments—from the recruitment process to formal legal arrangements.

This program can be conducted through two pathways:

Department Pathway

Departments may initiate partnerships with internship providers, or the internship partner may directly submit a proposal through the department. PK2 will support the process, especially in handling legal and administrative matters.

PK2 – Directorate of Student Affairs Pathway

PK2 may also initiate cooperation with internship providers, or internship partners can submit internship proposals directly through PK2, Directorate of Student Affairs, ITS.

Internship Duration and Implementation

  • The internship period must last at least 3 months and up to 6 months.

  • Internships can be conducted at any time, depending on the agreement with the internship provider.

Internship Cooperation Agreement (PKS)

The Internship Cooperation Agreement (PKS) is a mandatory document required for the conversion of internship activities into academic credits (SKS). Internships eligible for credit conversion must have a valid PKS and a duration of at least 3 months and no more than 6 months.

Department Recommendation Letter

This letter is issued collectively by the academic department as a formal recommendation for students applying to internship opportunities at companies that have established partnerships with ITS.

This document contains a formal declaration by the student, stating that they will not withdraw from the internship if accepted. It must be signed by the student (with a duty stamp), the academic advisor, and the head of the department.

This is a required document for internship registration. It contains the written consent of the student’s parent or legal guardian, allowing the student to participate in the internship program.

  Independent Internship

The Independent Internship Program is an internship initiative independently initiated by ITS students. In this program, students apply directly to industry partners for internship opportunities, and the PK2 – Directorate of Student Affairs ITS will assist by facilitating and formalizing the process.

Implementation of the Independent Internship Program

  • The internship must be conducted for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months.

  • The internship can take place at any time, depending on the agreement made with the internship provider.

The Internship Cooperation Agreement (PKS) is a required document for credit conversion (SKS). Internships that are eligible for credit conversion must be supported by a valid PKS and must last a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months.

  Procedure for Submitting a Cooperation Agreement (PKS)

Independent Internship

Please bring the following required documents to the SAC Building ITS to process the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for the Independent Internship (MBKM):

  • A recommendation letter from the department (stating that the student is permitted to conduct an internship) addressed to the internship provider

  • An internship acceptance letter from the internship provider

Converting Practical Work (KP) to Independent Internship

Please bring the following required documents to the SAC Building ITS to process the PKS for converting the Practical Work course (MK Kerja Praktik) into an Independent Internship (MBKM):

    • A recommendation letter from the department addressed to the internship provider (KP partner)

    • An internship acceptance letter from the internship provider (KP partner)

    • A department recommendation letter to PK2 ITS for approval of the course conversion from Practical Work to Independent Internship
