ITS Campus, GLC News — The Global Language Center (GLC) of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues expanding access to Test of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) training for students through its Fun TEFL program. This free TEFL training initiative is designed to help students prepare for the ITS TEFL, which serves as one of the requirements to register for final project, master’s thesis, and doctoral dissertation examinations at ITS, while also enhancing their readiness to face global challenges.

Through an inclusive and interactive learning approach, Fun TEFL is designed to help students from various academic backgrounds become better prepared for English proficiency tests. Through collaboration with student associations, GLC ITS can reach more participants from different departments, allowing access to TEFL guidance to be distributed more equitably. This activity also serves as an effort to reduce language competency gaps among ITS students through more open and accessible learning opportunities.

In May 2026, a series of Fun TEFL sessions were conducted across several ITS departments, namely the Department of Chemical Engineering on May 3rd, together with GLC ITS instructor Ms. Salsabilla Fitrotun Nada SPd, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning on May 9th, together with Ms. Windy Ardianita Sari SHum MHum, and the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering on May 18th–19th, together with Ms. Talitha Ayu Ramadhani MPd. The implementation of these activities across various departments demonstrates GLC ITS’s commitment to providing wider access to training for students from different fields of study.

In each session, participants took a pre-test to measure their initial ability before participating in material discussions and TEFL question-solving sessions. The material provided included listening, structure, and reading comprehension, accompanied by various tips and tricks to help participants work on questions more effectively. After the training, participants completed a post-test to evaluate the effectiveness of the learning process.

In addition to receiving instruction directly from GLC ITS instructors, participants also received practice modules that could be used for independent study. This relaxed yet practical learning approach is expected to help students become more confident in preparing for the ITS TEFL.

According to the GLC ITS instructor, Ms. Windy Ardianita Sari SHum MHum, the Fun TEFL program was created as a form of support for students who are still striving to meet the minimum TEFL score required by ITS. Through this free training, GLC ITS aims to help students improve their understanding and readiness for the test. “Fun TEFL is organized to facilitate ITS students who have not yet reached the minimum TEFL score so that they can meet the graduation standards set by the institution. We hope this free learning program can be utilized as effectively as possible by students who are striving to achieve the best possible TEFL scores,” she said.

The activity also opens up opportunities for more equitable language learning for all ITS students regardless of their departmental background or initial English proficiency. As a result, students have the same opportunity to receive guidance in preparing themselves to face various academic and professional needs in the future.

The Fun TEFL initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 10, which is Reduced Inequalities, particularly in promoting access to education and more inclusive competence development. Through training that reaches various departments, GLC ITS strives to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to prepare for academic requirements as well as international opportunities. Continuous collaboration with student associations also reflects GLC ITS’s commitment to expanding access to language training for students. (*)
