The vision underlies the 17 Sustainable Development Goals is to leave no one behind, which is very connected to the built environment. Therefore, the task of architecture is to contribute to inclusiveness and wellbeingness by responding to and accommodating human diversity of all ranges, from physiological to psychological, to create a built environment that is fit for all groups, with a specific focus on groups that are vulnerable to exclusion. To what extent has this been achieved? What can we do to support it?
AR+DC, as an architecture discussion forum this year, participated in enriching the discourse on inclusiveness, especially concerning the built environment. Given that the built environment is also part of the challenge of inclusiveness because it can exacerbate inequality and affect health & well-being. Supposedly, the built environment can potentially have a physiological and psychological impact on the user. AR+DC 2022 ” Rethinking Architecture Beyond Inclusion ” is a forum that gathers information from experts, academics, and architectural practitioners, which discusses inclusion and architectural design, specifically well-being ranging from general to specific issues, covering the needs of diverse communities.
