Surabaya, ELECTICS ITS – Efforts to protect the environment while strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation continue to be promoted through the Kampung Pancasila program in Surabaya. One concrete initiative comes from Simokerto Sub-district, which is currently designing the establishment of a Central Waste Bank as a sustainable solution to reduce the mounting waste at the Benowo Landfill.
This program goes beyond waste management—it also encourages active community involvement in maintaining cleanliness, sorting waste from the household level, and even transforming waste into items of economic value. Through the waste bank concept, residents are invited to be more environmentally conscious while also gaining financial benefits from recycling activities.
In its journey, Simokerto Sub-district has collaborated with various parties, including the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). One of the representatives from ITS involved in the program is Rio Tria Harditya, S.ST, an education staff member of ELECTICS, who participated in the program’s development.
“We are honored to contribute to the mentoring of Kampung Pancasila in Simokerto,” said Rio. “This synergy with the Surabaya City Government is a real example of how Pancasila values can be implemented through eco-friendly innovations.”
The role of academics is expected to bring innovation and provide guidance that supports the sustainability of the Kampung Pancasila program. With this collaboration, the Central Waste Bank of Simokerto is expected not only to reduce the volume of waste entering the landfill but also to serve as a learning center for the community on environmental practices.
“Through this mentoring, we hope the community will be increasingly motivated to care for the environment while fostering a sustainable culture of mutual cooperation,” he added.
Beyond that, this program is a tangible manifestation of Pancasila values—mutual cooperation, care, and shared responsibility in protecting the Earth. In line with the spirit of community empowerment, ITS through ELECTICS is ready to actively support programs that bring a broad impact on both the environment and the socio-economic life of residents. It is hoped that this small step from Simokerto can inspire other regions to build cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments.
