Representatives from ITS and Innovate UK, along with partners, visited the Solar2Wave trial site in Gili Ketapang, Probolinggo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014 The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) continues to strengthen its innovations to support the transition to clean energy. This was realized through a visit by ITS and Innovate UK as part of the Solar2Wave project, the first floating solar power plant in Indonesia. The visit took place in Gili Ketapang, Probolinggo, as a pilot area, on Friday (February 13).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This collaborative project between the British and Indonesian governments has designated Gili Ketapang as a pilot project that can be developed in other coastal areas. This location is considered relevant as it represents an environment affected by marine-based renewable energy. The 27.2-kilowatt solar power plant helps reduce dependence on diesel, improve local energy security, and support long-term decarbonization.<\/p>\n

The Head of the Solar2Wave Indonesia Research Team, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Aria Pria Utama, MSc, revealed that through this visit, all parties involved could see firsthand the progress of the program. In addition, he sees the strength of each partner’s role as evidence of good task distribution. \u201cThese parties include ITS, Innovate UK, Pattimura University, Cranfield University, Orela Shipyard, Gerbang Multindo Nusantara, Achelous Energy, HelioRec, and the village itself,\u201d said the ITS Marine Engineering Professor.<\/p>\n

The man often referred to as Ikap also mentioned that within the next month, this electricity supply facility can be used and will be handed over to the community. This also includes ensuring that this innovation is beneficial in meeting the needs and improving the local coastal community’s economy. The establishment of a legally based Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) is an effort to guarantee this.<\/p>\n

Not only that, Jillian Henderson, Head of Energy Innovation at Energy Innovate UK, also expressed her enthusiasm for this collaborative project. According to her, the issues of global warming and energy needs for fishermen open up opportunities to develop this technology. \u201cThe challenge here is more about communicating this technology to the surrounding community so that its benefits can be maximized,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Head of Gili Ketapang Village, Monir, expressed his gratitude to all parties who have contributed to this project. According to him, this can help meet the needs of coastal residents. \u201cHopefully, this project can run to meet the energy and ice production needs for fish preservation from fishermen,\u201d said Monir.<\/p>\n

This strategic step by ITS will not only have a direct impact on coastal areas in Indonesia, but also support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This includes point 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy, point 13 on Climate Action, and point 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
