Implementation Of Solar Panel Technology Based On Automatic Transfer Switch On Water Clearing Machines As Energy Efficiency Means To Support Local Drinking Water Production

2021

Puncu is one of the villages in Puncu District, Kediri Regency, East Java. Located in a mountainous area, the village of Puncu has a very rural atmosphere with rice fields, waterfalls and abundant water sources that continue to flow throughout the year. However, this abundant water source has not been able to be utilized properly by local residents due to the lack of knowledge of technology and management. Even though good management of water resources owned can provide many benefits for local residents, for example, it is used for drinking water needs which can even be mass-produced so that it can be sold as a village superior product in order to improve the economic level of residents (Sukamta).
Seeing the potential of this abundant water source, ITS in 2019 has carried out a service program for installing a reverse osmosis filter machine to process raw water into ready-to-drink water. The program has been implemented well, but over time there have been complaints from residents due to the high electrical power consumption of the RO machine. The installed RO machine consists of three pumps with a power of 1000 watts each. This is of course a problem that must be addressed immediately so that the RO machine can continue to be useful. On the other hand, according to studies by BPPT engineers and researchers, the average solar energy potential in Indonesia can reach 4.8 kwh/m2 and this is a tremendous potential for Indonesia to utilize solar power.

Therefore, in 2021, a solar panel installation service program is proposed in combination with switching power supply technology, automatic transfer switch (ATS), which is expected to produce more efficient consumption of electrical energy. This combination of technology is expected to be the first step so that Puncu village can produce mineral water with affordable production costs which can later be marketed and become one of the superior products. Therefore, this activity will focus on the installation of solar panels, the installation of switching power supply technology and assistance towards the production of “Puncu mineral water” which is ready to be marketed both inside and outside the city which will ultimately have an impact on improving the living standards of villagers.
The RO machine that is operated not only uses PLN’s energy source but is also combined with renewable energy sources from solar panels. To synchronize the system, automatic switching power technology is used to combine two energy sources. The implementation of a switching power supply system with ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) between solar cells and PLN as a power supplier for the RO machine’s electrical load aims to provide electrical power to the load by maintaining its continuity, reducing electricity consumption costs while reducing PLN electricity dependence so that electricity consumers can obtain electricity. benefits from both technical and economic aspects. This technology integrates the load (RO machine), PLN electricity, solar panels and batteries to obtain an appropriate technology system whose utilization can be used continuously and economically.
For the next plan, namely conducting training on drinking water packaging from a reverse osmosis machine whose electrical energy is supplied from PLTS and conducting training on the management of SMEs so that the production and marketing process can be carried out properly.
