
Surabaya, Civil Engineering ITS – The Department of Civil Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) successfully held a guest lecture on August 20th, 2025. The event featured two lectures focusing on the advancements in road and highway infrastructures in Taiwan. The speakers, who were taking parts in the International Conference on Low Carbon Construction scheduled for August 21th 2025, were specially invited to share their expertise in this session. The event was also attended by distinguished guests from Taiwan namely, Dr. Jieh-Haur Chen, Distinguished Professor from Department of Civil Engineering National Central University Taiwan as well as Dr. Jieh-Haur Chen, Chairman Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, Taiwan Tech, along with representatives from companies and institutions in Taiwan.

In the first lecture, Prof. Dr. Min-Chih Liao from Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, Construction Material Faculty, Taiwan Tech, delivered a lecture on “The Future of Road Infrastructure Low-Carbon Emission”. He highlighted that road construction contributes around 15% to total construction and maintenance emissions. To address this, Prof. Dr. Min-Chih Liao underscored the necessity to find alternatives for road construction with lower emission. He explored low carbon technologies that are possible to use, specifically with the use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), which can reduce excavation of raw materials while reducing carbon emissions.
