Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), through its Community Service Program (Abmas) and Community Service Learning Program (KKN) under the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Technology and Systems Engineering (DTMM FTIRS), continues to demonstrate its contribution to addressing environmental challenges in local communities. One such effort is the installation of Photocatalysis technology for treating synthetic dye waste at Batik Enjang Pelangi, located in Sambiroto Village, Padas District, Ngawi.<\/p>\n

The technology installation, carried out on Friday (21\/11), was warmly welcomed by the owner and manager of Batik Enjang Pelangi. As an active home-based batik production center, the disposal of synthetic dye waste has long posed environmental challenges, as it has the potential to contaminate soil, groundwater, and nearby rivers.<\/p>\n

As a concrete form of support, the ITS Abmas team built a wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) specifically designed for the needs of small-scale batik industries. The handover of this IPAL system marked the completion of a series of community service activities that had been carried out continuously.<\/p>\n

The Head of the ITS Abmas Team, Dr. Haryati Purwaningsih, S.Si., M.Si.<\/strong>, also conducted a direct trial of the installed Photocatalysis system. This technology utilizes a light-based catalytic process to break down synthetic dye compounds, enabling the wastewater to be treated into water with safer quality before being discharged into the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program is part of fulfilling the mandate from the ITS Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM), in collaboration with the Enjang Pelangi community, who have been highly supportive since the beginning of the mentoring process,\u201d she explained on Tuesday (25\/11).<\/p>\n

Haryati added that Photocatalysis technology was chosen due to its high effectiveness in reducing hazardous substances while remaining easy to operate for small-scale business owners. The implementation of this technology is expected to significantly reduce the pollution impacts that have long been a concern for local residents.<\/p>\n

With the establishment of the Photocatalysis-based wastewater treatment plant, ITS hopes that home-based batik industries in Ngawi can grow sustainably without posing environmental threats, while also opening opportunities for further research in wastewater treatment for creative industries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
