Hal tersebut disebabkan karena pembangunan yang berkelanjutan bagi Indonesia akan amat bergantung pada keberhasilan Indonesia dalam mengembangkan sumber daya kelautan. Dilandasi dengan keinginan untuk berperan aktif dalam program peningkatan kualitas sumber daya manusia dalam teknologi kelautan inilah maka sejak tahun 1992, Fakultas Teknologi Kelautan ITS merintis kerjasama dengan The Department of Marine Technology, The University of Newcastle Upon Tyne dalam rangka merintis program pascasarjana di bidang teknologi kelautan.<\/p>\n<p>Departemen Teknologi Kelautan yang berada dalam naungan Fakultas Teknologi Kelautan ( FTK ) membuka program studi PascaSarjana S-2 Teknologi Kelautan mulai tahun ajaran 1996\/1997 . Dari tahun ajaran 1993\/1994 sampai dengan tahun ajaran 2004\/2005, telah meluluskan 118 alumninya dari 555 mahasiswa yang ada. Mulai tahun ajaran 2001\/2002 program Doktor Teknologi Kelautan telah dibuka.<\/p>\n<p>Didukung oleh staf pengajar dengan kualifikasi 5 orang Profesor dan 26 orang Doktor. Sarana penunjang yang tersedia adalah sebagai berikut: Ruang Kuliah, 6 Laboratorium, Ruang Baca dengan lebih dari 6000 bahan pustaka, 18 jurnal ilmiah internasional, sambungan Internet serta fasilitas lain.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Kurikulum&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1532889441341-85af6261-d1c9&#8243;][vc_column_text] Kurikulum Program Magister Teknik Kelautan diimplementasikan ke dalam empat kurikulum (dua tahun akademik). Total SKS mata kuliah wajib adalah 36 SKS dan aktifitas tambahan yang mendukung MK wajib adalah 39 SKS, yang mana meliputi publikasi, riset dan penulisan tesis. Total SKS wajib dan tambahan adalah 75 SKS atau setara 120 ECTS.
