In a warm and convivial atmosphere, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Applied Civil Engineering (JATS) convened a coordination gathering with the Department Leadership as part of its preparations for the upcoming journal reaccreditation, while also strengthening the overall governance of academic journal management. The event, themed “Thanksgiving and Shared Luncheon,” was held at Weby Heritage – Dharmahusada, Surabaya, on Friday, January 9, 2026, serving as both a moment of togetherness and a reflective pause to review the journal’s ongoing performance.

The gathering brought together young and enthusiastic faculty members who actively manage JATS, alongside department leaders whose presence reflected strong institutional support. The event was initiated and coordinated by Ms. Naura Firdausi and Ms. Kamilia, who have consistently fostered a collaborative, professional, and adaptive editorial team in response to the evolving demands of reputable scholarly publishing. Also in attendance was the Head of Department, Mr. Tatas, Ph.D, who shared strategic insights and motivational guidance with the entire editorial team.

The program began with a shared lunch, during which participants enjoyed a selection of signature dishes served by Weby Heritage. This relaxed setting encouraged open conversations, allowing participants to connect more personally and strengthen mutual understanding. Informal yet meaningful discussions naturally unfolded, touching on editorial experiences, current challenges in journal management, and opportunities for improvement within the academic publishing process.

The coordination session then moved into a more focused discussion, highlighting an evaluation of JATS’s current achievements, the readiness of documentation and content required for the reaccreditation process, and strategic steps to further enhance journal quality. Participants exchanged constructive ideas on strengthening editorial workflows, improving the quality and relevance of published articles, optimizing the role of reviewers, and ensuring consistent adherence to publication ethics. Department leadership emphasized the importance of teamwork, sustained commitment, and innovation as key drivers for maintaining and elevating JATS’s standing as a credible academic journal.

The event concluded with a group photo session, symbolizing unity and a shared commitment to advancing JATS toward greater professionalism, quality, and competitiveness. Through this thoughtfully organized and collegial coordination gathering, it is hoped that the spirit of collaboration and professionalism among the JATS editorial team will continue to grow as they navigate the reaccreditation process and future challenges in journal management.
