The Monozukuri Project is an initiative carried out by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) as a tangible contribution to introducing Toyota’s philosophy and culture to the education and industrial sectors. This activity aims to highlight Toyota’s role in contributing to society, particularly in the fields of engineering and manufacturing education. Through this project, TMMIN seeks to instill the values of continuous improvement (Kaizen) and respect for people, which form the foundation of the Toyota philosophy.
The implementation of the Monozukuri Project serves as a platform for students to gain real-world insights into the production process simulation at TMMIN. During the program, students have the opportunity to directly practice the concepts of the Toyota Production System (TPS), including the application of the Jidoka and Just-in-Time (JIT) principles. Using demonstration tools such as automotive piston assembly, students can better understand how lean manufacturing concepts are applied in actual industrial processes. Thus, this activity is expected to enhance students’ competence in applying theoretical knowledge to real-world industrial practice.
This project is integrated into the curriculum of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (DTSI) at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), with full support from lecturers, laboratory assistants, and students. The activities are conducted at the Manufacturing System Laboratory of DTSI ITS, which has now evolved into the Lean Production System Laboratory as a result of collaboration with TMMIN. The project is implemented through the integration of TPS concepts into the course and practicum “Lean Concept and Its Application”, as well as the development of karakuri applications as tools for process improvement.
