Panjang \u00b1 320 km dan memiliki luas catchment area \u00b1 14.103 km2. Curah hujan rata-rata mencapai 2.000 mm\/tahun sekitar 85% jatuh pada musim hujan sehingga potensi air permukaan per tahun rata-rata 13,232 milyar m3.<\/p>\n<p>Sumber sedimen yang masuk ke Kali Brantas dari letusan G.Kelud yang sudah meletus jauh sebelum kerajaan Majapahit dan diketahui aktif sampai sekarang. Serat Pararaton memberitakan meletusnya gunung pada 1233 Saka (1311 M), gemuruh lahar dingin (guntur banyu pindah) pada 1256 Saka (1334 M), munculnya gunung anyar (baru) pada 1307 Saka (1385 M), gunung meletus pada 1317 Saka (1395 M), gunung meletus pada 1343 Saka (1421 M) disusul kekurangan pangan pada 1348 Saka (1426 Masehi), gempa bumi (palindu) pada 1372 Saka (1450 Masehi) disusul gunung meletus setahun kemudian, 1373 Saka (1451 M), gunung meletus pada 1384 Saka (1462 M), gunung lainnya meletus pada 1403 Saka (1481 M).<\/p>\n<p>Masa Kerajaan Majapahit membangun banyak bendungan dan kanal-kanal dalam kota. Bangunan air itu khusus dibuat untuk menjinakkan air Kali Brangkal. Karena bangunan air itulah Majapahit dapat bertahan hingga abad ke-15. Banjir K.Brantas masih terus terjadi, sampai sekarang.<\/p>\n<p>Bagaimana kerajaan sebelum Majapahit mengatasi banjir tersebut? Ternyata Airlangga bisa menaklukkan banjir K.Brantas dengan membangun bendungan (tanggul) Waringinsapta. Keberhasilan teknologi penanganan banjir ini tertulis dalam Prasasati Kemalagyan 1037 M yang terletak di Klagen Sidoarjo. Permasalahannya prasasti tersebut ditulis dengan bahasa jawa kuna atau sansekerta dan umumnya huruf sudah banyak yang aus atau hilang. Untuk bisa membaca tulisan prasasti paling tidak dibutuhkan 3 tahapan yaitu menulis dan memindahkan isi prasasti, menerjemahkan ke bahasa jawa kuna dan terakhir menerjemahkan ke bahasa Indonesia. Hasil tarjemahan itu kemudian dicari lokasi bendungan yang telah dibuat Airlangga dalam mengatasi banjir tahun 1037.<\/p>\n<p>Mau tahu lebih banyak?
