This travelling workshop held in Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines at February 23rd-24th 2018, in postgraduate conference room. The theme delivered was \u201cMicroPerspectives for Decentralized Energy Supply\u201d, and consisting of in-class workshop and\u00a0field trip\u00a0to Micro-Hydro plant (MHP) located in PPLH Seloliman, Mojokerto.<\/p>\n<p>The MES workshop 2018 is attended by students from several departments at ITS, especially those interested in studying energy engineering. One of Engineering Physics` international student, Pierre Damien, said that this workshop gives him new knowledge about energy assessment matrices.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8595 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ep.its.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/berita-5-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"371\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The discussion about energy access distribution is not something new. The decentralized energy system promotes every region to develop their own energy sources based on their potential. The centralized energy assessment &#8211; now said conventional &#8211; is no longer viable as it classifies regions to just \u201cenergy access available\u201d and \u201cnot available\u201d. The new method, Worldbank\u2019s Multi-Tier Framework\u00a0(MTF) is introduced to classify a region, community, or even a factory into Tier\u00a0\/ level based on several criteria such as electricity availability, clean water, energy sources for cooking, lighting, etc. This method is useful to scientists, businessmen, investors, and government to identify how well energy distribution in an area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3858 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tfisika\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/10\/berita-4-1-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tfisika\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/10\/berita-4-1-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tfisika\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/10\/berita-4-1-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tfisika\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/10\/berita-4-1-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tfisika\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/10\/berita-4-1-355x266.jpeg 355w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tfisika\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/10\/berita-4-1.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>The Field Trip<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8592 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ep.its.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/berita-1-300x124.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"159\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Damien commented that the interesting part about the workshop is the field trip to Seloliman. He can directly see and understand energy access in rural areas. \u201c<em>It opened our eyes about many things, especially energy access<\/em>.\u201d he said. The Micro-Hydro Plant (MHP) itself is an example of decentralized energy source. Riverside areas use MHP as electricity source, using water stream to power the generator. The <em>energy assessment<\/em>\u00a0process surely considers the location and specification of MHP.<\/p>\n<p>This was a successful workshop and a chance of opening the collaboration between Engineering Physics ITS \u00a0and MES\u00a0Research Group\u00a0of Technical University Berlin.
