Green Synergy: The Academic Community of the Department of Electrical and Automation Engineering, Faculty of Vocational Studies, ITS Supports Net Zero Emissions through GUGUR GUNUNG 8.0

The Department of Electrical and Automation Engineering — ITS held the GUGUR GUNUNG 8.0 event on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The Department of Electrical and Automation Engineering (DTEO) of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, ITS participated in the series of activities. The spirit of mutual cooperation and environmental preservation is deeply rooted in DTEO. The GUGUR GUNUNG 8.0 activity was divided into two main agendas: a central activity with the ITS Rector at the Science Techno Park (STP) and internal greening activities within the department at ITS.
New students of the Department of Electrical and Automation Engineering had the opportunity to participate in the GUGUR GUNUNG event centered at the Science Techno Park (STP), joining the ITS Rector and staff, faculty leaders, alumni, and 1,500 new students. This activity included the planting of thousands of tree seedlings as a contribution to ITS’s Towards Net Zero Emission program.

At the same time, the Department of Electrical Automation Engineering community, including the Head of Department, lecturers, staff, and students, held an internal GUGUR GUNUNG activity within the department from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time). The activity began with a cleanup of the area surrounding the department, including the garden, hallways, laboratory areas, and green open spaces.

Following the cleanup, all participants continued with a tree-planting activity in the department area. Several types of shade trees and fruit trees were selected to enhance comfort and enhance biodiversity within the department. Students enthusiastically planted the seedlings, guided by lecturers and staff to ensure each tree was planted using the correct method.
The two-site event—STP as the center for Gugur Gunung 8.0 and an internal departmental activity—demonstrated the Department of Electrical and Automation Engineering’s contribution to supporting ITS’s overall greening efforts. Students participating in STP brought the enthusiasm of the main event to the table, while students, staff, and lecturers in the department strengthened their commitment to greening in areas more closely connected to daily academic activities.

The DTEO internal Gugur Gunung activities have been completed.

Through this series of activities, the Department of Electrical Automation Engineering reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustainability issues under SDG 13—Climate Action—and SDG 15—Life on Land.
