SDG 7: AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

“After water and food, energy is one of the key enablers of human life. Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today and access to energy for all is essential. But energy needs to be available and affordable to all to allow future development, and it needs to be clean in order to ensure that the development can be sustainable.”

ITS Program in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emission

The program that ITS has in reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission consists of 3 emission scopes. Scope 1 accommodates Stationary Combustion, Mobile Combustion, Process Emissions, and Fugitive Emissions. Scope 2 is about Purchased Electricity. While Scope 3 talks about Waste, Purchased Waste, and Commuting.

ITS Renewable Energy Sources

Following up Circular Letter of ITS Rector about Sustainable and Environmental Friendly campus, ITS utilizes three renewable energy sources (solar power, clean biomass, and biodiesel) with a total of 145,855 kWh per annum. ITS utilizes a total of nine solar powers, complemented with biogas and gasification. This represents ITS commitment to preserving energy efficiency and conservation, along with technology utilization in keeping the energy consumption efficient.

Energy and the Community

Abmas ITS Develops Micro Hydro Power Plant Potential in Probolinggo

Several areas in Indonesia have the potential for very abundant water flows, one of which is in Duren Village, Gading District, Probolinggo Regency. This prompted the Community Service Lecture and Community Service (KKN Abmas) team, Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) to go directly into developing water management through a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH).

Helping Hydroponic Farmers, ITS KKN Abmas Team Designs a Solar Energy-Based Tool

Limited land and waste of electricity due to irrigation are crucial problems that are often experienced by hydroponic farmers, as is the case with Simomulyo Hydroponic Village, Surabaya. Responding to this problem, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) team designed a tool called Automatic Solar Hydroponics based on solar energy with nutrient and pH controls.

ITS SST Laboratory Introduces Environmentally Friendly Water Pump Technology

The use of machines fueled by conventional energy sources for milkfish cultivation, is less able to support meeting the increasing market demand. Therefore, the Power System Simulation Laboratory (SST) of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is doing community service (abmas) by making solar-powered water pump technology using Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) for irrigation of milkfish ponds.

ITS Towards Renewable Energy Campus

In moving towards the vision of becoming a sustainable and environmental friendly campus, as well as to realize the ITS Smart Eco Campus Program, ITS has a commitment to strive for energy efficiency and conservation by putting effort to achieve 10 points of commitments.

Helping to Supply Electricity, ITS Students Initiate a Renewable Energy Prototype

The increasing need for electricity and limited access to electricity are two problems that are often faced by the people of Kalinegoro Village, Magelang Regency, Central Java. Starting from this problem, students from the Department of Product Design, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and their team initiated an innovative waterwheel that produces electricity with renewable energy.

ITS Develops PLTS for Puncu District

Institute Technology of Sepuluh Nopember  (ITS) is again contributing by developing a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in Puncu Village, Kediri. The program designed by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) through the Community Service Program (KKN) team is predicted to be able to improve the economy in the region.

Regarding the Draft of EBT Constitution, Government is Asked to Beware of State Budget Resilience Regarding Rooftop Solar Power Plants

It is considered that the government needs to be aware of the resilience of the state budget related to the plan to develop a rooftop solar power plant as written in the draft of the New and Renewable Energy Bill.

Mukhtasor, an energy expert from the Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS), said it was very important for the government to maintain a sustainable accelerated renewable energy program within the context of the state budget. One of the regulations is PLTS Roof.

Bionersia, Startup Biogas Overcomes Carbon Emissions Initiated by ITS Alumni

Carbon emissions in Indonesia are increasing by 20% annually. This is the cause of reduced oxygen levels in the air. Responding to this problem, Bio Energi Indonesia (Bionersia), which is a startup alumni of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), is here as a solution to take advantage of these carbon emissions.
