Statistics Department Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) aims to develop statistics and their application in various fields, particularly in industry and business, computing, financial and actuarial, social and demographic, and environmental and healthcare. To achieve these objectives, the department established five laboratories as the centers for development and application of statistics and curriculum development centers. The laboratories are the Industrial and Business Laboratory, the Computational Laboratory, the Laboratory of Financial Statistics and Actuarial, the Social and Population Statistics Laboratory, and the Environmental and Health Statistics Laboratory.

By 2015, this department has 45 lecturers with qualifications: 22 Doctoral (2 of whom are Professors), and 23 Masters (of which 5 are currently studying Doctoral). To support administrative activities, this department has Sub-Division Head as coordinator, 3 persons for academic, 1 person for financial, 1 person of inventory, 3 for general and equipment, 2 technicians, 2 officer and 4 cleaners.

Students of the this department is educated to be a qualified graduate in statistics such as the potential to develop statistics, and able to apply them in industry, computing, business – economics, social – government, environment – health and able to communicate their knowledge both in written and oral. Students are also mentored to produce statistical research in industry, computing, business – economics, social – governmental, and environmental – health that can contribute to solving real problems in society.

Employment opportunities for graduates are research institutes, quality assurance, research and development, data analysis, government and private banks, market research, BPS, local government, industry (PT Philips, JVC, Astra, Petrochemicals, Djarum), and others. Educational Collaboration that has been done, among others, Doctoral Program and master program with Statistics Center, Student Exchange Program with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Program of Equivalency in Statistics with Aktuaris Exam, Persatuan Aktuaris Indonesia.

Undergraduate Program

This program contributes to industry, computing, business and economics, social and government, and environment and health. Students will be given analytical science and methods or approaches, statistical concepts (theory, method, and application) so they can formulate and solve problems. The program provides 144 credits consisting of compulsory, elective and general subjects.


International Undergraduate Program

The International Undergraduate Program (also known as IUP) is a bachelor program which implements English as the language of instruction. The program offers regular undergraduate curriculum and provides opportunities for students to take part in international activities in the form of Study excursion, Internship in an international or multinational company, Student exchange, Summer/short course, and Joint degree.


Master Program

In the 2009-2014, the master program provides curriculum-based competency, each course is grouped into three competencies: Main, Supports, and Others. Major Competencies includes the Compulsory and Thesis courses. Supporting competencies contain elective courses that support the Primary Competencies. While other competencies contain elective courses that add major insights.


Doctoral Program

Doctoral program provides curriculum-based competency that has 40 credits, which is scheduled in 6 semesters. Each course is grouped into two main competencies. First competencies contain a Dissertation with 28 credits, and others contain elective courses that support core competencies with 12 credits.

Statistics department have a purpose to produce research and development of high-quality statistics. Statistics Department also has laboratories to support research :

  1. Industry-Business Statistics : Consist of three important that become trending research topics, such as data acquisition, processing paradigm, and information dissemination. The expertise in this laboratory is Control Chart, Reliability Optimization, Quality by Design & Robust Design, Quality Improvement Method based on Six Sigma Quality (single & multiple-response) by Taguchi, Fuzzy Logic, Wavelet, Stochastic Model, Structural Equation Modeling SEM), Calibration Model, Risk Theory and Financial Engineering, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Market Mapping Analysis, Non-Destructive Evaluation.
  2. Computation Statistics: Development of statistical methods of computing and applications based on science and technology that can be used for teaching, research and community service.
  3. Economics, Financial and Actuarial Statistics : Development of economic, financial and actuary statistics that can be used for teaching, research and community service.
  4. Social Demography Statistics : Development of nonparametric regression statistics, demographic and qualitative data, to solve problems related to social issues, population, and government studies. Focus research in this field is national food security, poverty, and social problems.

One of the goals for Statistics Department has a collaboration with other universities, communities, industries, government agencies and other institutions both at the national and international levels. The collaboration of industrial and business research also conducted with PT. PHILIPS, PT. UBS, PT Pertamina (Consumer Satisfaction), JTV (Loyalty Survey), Jawa Pos (Elektabilitas Survey), PT. ALSTOM (Training and Research), PDAM (Training and Research).
