Electrical Engineering Department is a professional science that studies electrical applications, electronics, and electromagnets. In this department, lecturers and students are challenged to continually innovate and develop new technologies to address various issues related to medicine, energy and the environment. Electrical Engineering is also committed to educating students to become professionals and facilitate students to achieve the goal as an electrical engineering expert. Students are directed to pursue one of four focus i.e power system engineering, multimedia telecommunications, electronics, and system setting techniques.83 scientists and engineers become lecturers Electrical Engineering Department. Nine of them are professors, 33 hold doctoral degrees, and the rest have master degrees. The lecturer is also very productive in producing research and publications. Data at Scopus, placing three lecturers of  Electrical Engineering Department in the top five lecturers of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) with the highest publication and the highest h-index. One lecturer in Electrical Engineering Department has also been the outstanding lecture nationally.Electrical Engineering Department is one of the largest department in ITS and receives about 160 undergraduate students. Electrical Engineering becomes favorite department because one student in this department have competed with more than 5000 prospective students from all over the country, which only 4% accepted. Students in Electrical engineering also get The Outstanding Students yearly.Electrical Engineering department’s graduates occupy an important position as professional engineers, industry leaders, politics and public services, academics, researchers, and educational. Some companies led by graduates are PT Semen Baturaja, PT Semen Padang, PT Pertamina, Telkom, Indosat, SAP Indonesia, dan Serambi Ilmu Semesta. One of the alumni in this department is Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nuh, DEA also served as Minister of Communication and Information and Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.

Undergraduate Program                                                                                         

This program takes eight semesters for four years. To obtain a bachelor’s degree, undergraduate students need to complete 144 credits and take TOEFL test with a minimum score of 477. Students can choose their focus in 4th semester i.e power system engineering, multimedia telecommunications, electronics, and system setting techniques. 


International Undergraduate Program

The International Undergraduate Program (also known as IUP) is a bachelor program which implements English as the language of instruction. The program offers regular undergraduate curriculum and provides opportunities for students to take part in international activities in the form of Study excursion, Internship in an international or multinational company, Student exchange, Summer/short course, and Joint degree.


Master Program

This program takes four semesters or two years, and students need to complete 36 credits. This program aims to improve the level of science and the ability of its participants. Students are expected to have academic and professional skills that can be utilized independently in developing science and electro-technology in education, research, and industry. The master program in the Electrical Engineering Department has seven expertise, such as power system engineering, multimedia telecommunications, electronics, regulatory systems, multimedia smart networks, telematics, and telematics for ICT managers (devoted to students working with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics).


Doctoral Program

The main part of the doctoral program in this department is research activities that contribute to the new development of electrical engineering. This program takes three years with 40 credits. Major competency courses include dissertation (as a final task for this program) activities that include research and publication of at least one accredited national journal and one publication in international journals. 

Power System Technique

The research program directed into energy conversion techniques, electrical transmission and distribution techniques, interconnection systems, regulatory and safety techniques, and computer use for planning calculations. This research focus is supported by five laboratories, i.e:

1. Basic Electrical Laboratory

2. Electric Power System Simulation Laboratory

3. Instrumentation Laboratory for Measurement and Identification of Power Systems

4. High Voltage Laboratory

5. Electrical Energy Conversion Laboratory.


Multimedia Communication

The research program focuses on the communication system, techniques of transmitting and receiving information signals, transmission and propagation of electromagnetic waves, transmitter and receiver planning, and the use of microprocessors in the processing of information signals. Laboratories that supported this research, i.e:

1. Telecommunication Network Laboratory

2. Multimedia Communication Laboratory

3. Antenna Laboratory and Propagation



Research program directed to electronic circuits and components, integrated circuits, electronics equipment design, component manufacturing techniques, as well as the use of electronics in industry and biomedicine. This research is supported by:

1. Applied Electronics Laboratory

2. Industrial Electronics Laboratory

3. Biomedical Electronics Laboratory

4. Basic Electronics Laboratory


Regulatory System Techniques

Research program directed to electronic circuits and components, integrated circuits, electronics equipment design, component manufacturing techniques, as well as the use of electronics in industry and biomedicine. This research is supported by:

1. System Engineering Laboratory and Cybernetics

2. Industrial Automation and Informatics Laboratory

3. Laboratory Programmable Logic Controller

4. Regulatory Engineering Laboratory


Computer and Telematics Engineering

Research program directed to software and computer hardware, logic systems, the use of logic in computer design, the use of computers as data processing and programming tools, and analysis of program outcomes. This research is supported by:

1. Computer Laboratory and Automation

2. Telematics Laboratory

3. Multimedia Computing Laboratory

4. Digital Signal Processing Laboratory

This department has much collaboration in education and research with the various institution. In education, Electrical Engineering Department has a double degree program, both for undergraduate, master, and doctoral degrees that partnership with Fontys University in the Netherlands, Hochschule Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in Germany, Kumamoto University in Japan, INSA Rennes in France, Polytechnic Nantes in France, and Bourgogne University in France.  This partnership also did through joint research, internships, student and lecturer exchange, and international joint conference.Education collaboration is also conducted in undergraduate scholarship program with Directorate of Secondary and Vocational Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs. there is also a master degree program in the field of game technology with Foreign Commercial Loans and master programs with the Ministry of Communications and Informatics.Electrical Engineering Department has also a collaboration with several companies, such as PT Semen Gresik, Pertamina, PT Conoco Phillips, PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, PT Kaltim Daya Mandiri and PT Pusri. Collaboration with the government also done with East Java Province and Riau Province.
