Exploration of Engineering and Environmental Management

Department of Environmental Engineering Institut Teknologi Sepuluh (ITS) studied and explored the areas of environmental engineering and management, such as Water Supply and Processing Technology, Wastewater Treatment and Treatment, Hazardous and Toxic Waste Management (B3), Waste Management, Environmental Pollution, Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL ). One of the missions of this department is to develop science and technology in the field of engineering and environmental management that prioritizes the quality of the environment, including coastal areas.This departement is supported by 29 professional faculty with qualifications of 1 Professor, 4 Doctor, 15 Master (3 of whom are taking doctoral programs), and 10 Bachelors (5 are currently in master program). In addition to the lecture hall, the department provides seminar rooms, reading rooms, and various laboratories to support student lectures, such as the Environmental Technology Laboratory and Process Engineering Laboratory.In addition to having excellent academic and teaching qualities, the Department of Environmental Engineering ITS also has students who are guided to apply actively the work of technological innovations and methods in solving the environmental quality problems in the community and fostering the value of ethics, morals, attitudes, and abilities.Alumni of this departement can work in Government Institution like Ministry of Health, Environment, BPPT, Department of Hygiene, BAPEDAL, Public Works Department, LIPI, Ministry of Internal Affairs, PDAM, BAPPEDA, State University (PTN) and private sector like Private University (PTS), consultants, contractors, industry, NGOs.

Undergraduate ProgramThe undergraduate study program at this Department is completed within eight semesters or four years. To obtain a bachelor degree, the ITS Environmental Engineering Department students need to complete 144 Semester Credit Units (SKS) during the lecture and take the TOEFL test with a minimum score of 477. International Undergraduate ProgramThe International Undergraduate Program (also known as IUP) is a bachelor program which implements English as the language of instruction. The program offers regular undergraduate curriculum and provides opportunities for students to take part in international activities in the form of Study excursion, Internship in an international or multinational company, Student exchange, Summer/short course, and Joint degree. Master ProgramMaster’s program is taken within four semesters or two years with study load of 36 Semester Credit Units (SKS). Academic activities for master’s degree programs in ITS Environmental Engineering Department include lectures, research activities in laboratories, discussions and seminars, and thesis research.  Doctoral ProgramThe main part of the doctoral program at the Department of Environmental Engineering ITS is basically a research activity that contributes to the development of science, technology and art. Doctoral program education begins with lecture activities, then continued with qualification test before the research for dissertation is done.

Research at the Department of Environmental Engineering ITS is supported by experienced laboratories in the field and is headed by an expert in the field of environmental expertise. The Laboratory serves analytical, practicum and research activities. Some of the laboratories in this department include:

  1. Laboratory of Water Treatment Technology
  2. Laboratory of Solid Waste Management and Hazardous and Toxic Waste
  3. Laboratory of Environmental Quality Management Laboratory
  4. Laboratory for Air Pollution Control and Climate Change
  5. Laboratory of Environmental Remediation

Department of Environmental Engineering of ITS has a partnership initiated by professors followed up by majors in research and education (such as cooperation with NTU, NTUST, Soka-University, UTM, UKM etc.), and proactively majoring in follow up with the sending of lecturers of S-2 / S-3, joint research program, post doc, etc.Lecturers who often apply knowledge outside the campus and cooperate with various institutions also play a very important role in the development of partnership cooperation, some examples for this are joint research of ITS Environmental Engineering Study Program with several departments and offices (such as PU, settlement, Environment Agency) industry (PDAMs, other industries), etc.
