Department of Engineering Physics’s discipline is an education that combines engineering concepts with a strong mastery of Physics and Mathematics to produce creative and innovative applications. Students are equipped with the ability of research and development, design and analysis for various physical systems in the industry. Graduates will be able to analyze engineering problems based on Engineering Physics (Instrumentation, Energy and Environmental Conditioning, Material, Vibration and Acoustics, and Photonics) and able to play an active role in solving industry problems.

The learning methods in this department use a lab-based education approach (LBE) to balance theoretical knowledge and application of physical engineering science in real problems supported by eight laboratories with high involvement from students. A good academic climate has brought this department into various collaborations, such as industrial instrumentation research at PT Kertas Leces, PT Badak, PT Pupuk Kaltim, PT. Semen Tuban, PT Petrokimia Gresik. Beside collaboration in medical instrumentation training with Dr. RSU. Sutomo, ATEM, BPFK and guest lectures as well as regular visits to several industries.

The scope of Engineering Physics makes the students able to join other students in various fields. For example, engineering physics students who can be a team both in the field of mining, automotive to energy. Another example in Team Sapu Angin Speed (SAS) V ready to compete in Japan, ITS Student Petroleum Engineer Team (SPE) winning competition in India and various other competitions.

Alumni of engineering physics have spread in all areas of both government and private institutions such as Ministry of Mines, Home Affairs, National Education, BPPT, Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI), PT. PAL, BBI, Caltex, Arco, Unilever, PT Badak, PT Telkom, PT Pupuk Kaltim, Maspion, Pertamina, and others.

Undergraduate Program

This program is undergraduate programs with accreditation A and its capacity is 120 students. Students are required to complete at least 144 credits (semester credit units) scheduled in 8 semesters (1 semester consists of 16 weeks of lecturing and evaluation). Graduates of this program will earn a Bachelor of Engineering (ST).

Undergraduate Program – Cross Program

This program is undergraduate programs that specialized for diploma III graduates who will continue to a bachelor degree. Students accepted in this program are from graduates of Diploma III (D-III) Program in Instrumentation, Metrology, Biomedical Engineering, Polytechnics Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation and Electrical Medical Engineering (ATEM) with a capacity of about 40 students. Students on this Program have a study load of 70 credits scheduled in 4 semesters.

Master Program

This program is held in 4 semesters (2 years), with a maximum period of study is 4 years. Engineering Physics Master Program has 2 areas of interest that can be selected by students according to their talents and abilities, namely Engineering Instrumentation of Industrial and Renewable Energy Engineering. The lecture and research process in this Program is supported by Laboratory and Workshops.

Doctoral Program

This program is held with a duration of 6 to 8 semesters, with a study load of 72 credits. This program also accepts prospective students who come from a master degree program that is not linear and required to take matriculation courses (set by the dissertation committee Engineering Physics program) in order to equalize the level of understanding and mastery of engineering physics candidates for Physics related to dissertation theme.

This department conducts research in various fields, which are generally grouped into the following areas of interest:

  1. Instrumentation and Control Engineering: PLC, industrial instrumentation, automatic control, medical instrumentation, and calibration and measurement
  2. Energy Engineering and Environmental Conditioning: procurement of energy generation, energy conversion and energy conservation, and energy management
  3. Engineering Materials: simulation/computing electronic devices, semiconductors, corrosion
  4. Vibration and Acoustics: vibration, noise, building lighting
  5. Photonic Engineering: Fiber optic sensor, biomedical photonics, laser.

This department has a collaboration with PT. The Java-Bali power plant, PT Pertamina (PERSERO) and PT Petrokimia Gresik, NCTU Taiwan and various other universities.
