An Innovator in Biomedical Science and Technology

Biomedical Engineering Department is a science that studies the principles of engineering applied to biology and medicine for the purpose of health services. This department was formed to produce the next generation of strong analytical and synthesis capabilities in the field of biomedical instrumentation specialization, biomedical signal processing, biomechanics, biomedical control, and biomaterials. With these capabilities, Biomedical Engineering graduates are expected to meet the challenges in the field of medical equipment design, signal processing and medical image, clinical engineering, medical rehabilitation, as well as technical assistance for individuals with special needs.Biomedical Engineering Department is appointed by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education to be the center of excellence of biomedical research in Indonesia with ITB, UGM, and UI. This department has 11 lecturers who are competent in their expertise, one professor, two doctoral and the rest have master degrees. Some of them are winning and experienced lectures in government and industry. The lecturers are also actively conducting research, which is focused on computational mechanisms, communication and control systems on biological systems, and their applications in the fields of biology, electronics, and mechanics.Each year, the department receives only 3 percent of applicants. Biomedical Engineering students also have excellent qualifications. Students are challenged to solve health problems in the country, such as creating artificial organs and tools for people with disabilities.As a developing country, Indonesia needs more experts in health science and technology. This department has a promising prospect of work, such as hospitals, health laboratories, government agencies, pharmaceutical or drug companies, research institutes, software developers for healthcare, and lecture.

Undergraduate Program                                                                                           This program has 50 quotas for prospective students.Students will learn about Biomedical Instrumentation, Biomedical Signal Processing, Biomechanics, Biomedical Controls, Biomaterials, and others.

Research program focusing on computing mechanisms, communication and control systems on biological systems, and their applications in biology, electronics, and mechanics. Biomedical Engineering Department has a lot of research program that publishes in conference and journal, such as ICSSE, CSAE, IEICE, MEDICON, SENTIA, IREE dan iSITIA. This department also has two laboratories to support research program, i.e:

  1. Electronics Biomedical, that facilitation to develop instrumentation system and biomedWika signal management.
  2. Biocybernetics, that facilitation to develop medical rehabilitation system and biocybernetics.

Department of Biomedical Engineering Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has cooperation with various universities in Indonesia and abroad including Padjajaran University Bandung, Groningen University and Tohoku University. The department also receives internship students, as well as visits and initiations of cooperation from universities in Indonesia and abroad.
