The Departemen Sistem Informasi ITS<\/span><\/span> organized an international guest lecture on April 7, 2026, featuring Prof. Dr. Walter Rimo De Vries<\/span><\/span>, Professor at the TUM School of Engineering and Design<\/span><\/span>, Technical University of Munich<\/span><\/span>, Germany.<\/p>\n

The lecture was titled \u201cFrom Rural Walkability to Urban Digital Twins: Leveraging Geospatial Research from Germany to Guide Sustainable Policy.\u201d<\/strong> The event was attended by students and faculty members interested in information systems, geospatial technologies, and data-driven policy development.<\/p>\n

During his presentation, Prof. Walter Rimo De Vries explained how geospatial research can support sustainable development, ranging from rural walkability analysis to the development of urban digital twins in metropolitan areas. This approach enables policymakers to utilize spatial data more effectively for urban planning and environmental management. \ud83d\udcca<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the importance of integrating digital technologies with geospatial data to create accurate simulations that support strategic decision-making. According to him, the concept of urban digital twins can help governments and stakeholders better understand urban dynamics in real time and design more sustainable policies.<\/p>\n

This guest lecture reflects the commitment of the Departemen Sistem Informasi ITS<\/span><\/span> to broaden international exposure for students and strengthen academic collaboration with global institutions. Participants showed great enthusiasm during the discussion session, raising questions about the implementation of geospatial technologies in Indonesia. \u2728<\/p>\n

Through this activity, students are expected to gain new insights into the use of geospatial research to support sustainable public policy and explore opportunities for future international research collaboration.<\/p>\n
