Department of Naval Architecture was established in 1960 with the initial name of the Faculty of Naval Architecture (Fakultas Teknik Perkapalan/FTP). As the name implies, Naval Architecture Department has core competencies in studying, researching, designing and developing knowledge of ship building (naval architecture and shipbuilding) and the development of transport systems and business operations fleet (sea transportation and shipping business). Naval Engineering Department has obtained the assessment from National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN PT) with a value of A (Quite Good).

The department vision is to become the point of reference in the field of shipbuilding engineering internationally and environmentally by promoting the principles of the green economy into global benchmark nowadays in order to improve the quality of life of the Indonesian nation and mankind. Currently, there are four areas of expertise, which are Naval Architecture and Marine Transport Planning Division, Hydrodynamic Field, Field Construction and strength, and Field of Ship Production. In order to support educational activities in four areas of expertise group, Department of Naval Architecture comes with a reference room, drawing studio room, laboratory and workshop.
