Participants, speakers, and representatives from the Directorate of SDMO ITS attended the PLP ITS National Seminar 2025 held at the Research Center Building, 11th Floor, ITS.

In an era of rapid technological advancement and globalization, laboratories play an increasingly strategic role as centers for the development of science, innovation, and technology. Behind the successful operation of laboratories lies the essential role of Educational Laboratory Staff (PLP), who serve as the frontline in ensuring quality, safety, and the sustainability of academic and research activities. Recognizing this vital role, the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), through the PLP ITS National Seminar 2025, adopted the theme “Human Resource Development of PLP Towards Impactful, Professional, Adaptive, and Certified Laboratories.”

This national seminar serves as a strategic forum for PLP, academics, researchers, and stakeholders in the laboratory field to engage in discussions, share experiences, and strengthen professional networks. Through this activity, it is expected that the competence, professionalism, and competitiveness of PLP will continue to improve, enabling them to face the challenges of the digital era and meet laboratory quality standards recognized at both national and international levels.

Aang Kunaifi, Head of PEO ITS, stated that the objective of the PLP ITS National Seminar 2025 is to enhance the competence, professionalism, and adaptability of PLP human resources in addressing the challenges of modern laboratory management. He hopes that this event will contribute to the development of impactful, professional, and certified laboratories that support advancements in research, education, and innovation in Indonesia.

The essence of the theme “Impactful Laboratory” reflects a commitment to positioning laboratories not only as facilities that support learning but also as centers of tangible contribution to society and industry. An impactful laboratory is one that can generate applied innovations, support environmental sustainability, and provide solutions to various national challenges.

Fadlilatul Taufany, Director of DRPM ITS, emphasized that quality management in laboratory activities is one of the key factors in realizing impactful Higher Education Tri Dharma outcomes, especially in research and innovation. One important aspect of quality management is personal competence, which includes training, certification, and regular evaluation of laboratory personnel.

Meanwhile, the aspects of Professionalism and Certification highlight the importance of strengthening PLP capacity through continuous training, mastery of safety and quality standards, and competency recognition through national certification. With these standards, PLP are expected to work with a high level of safety, efficiency, and reliability in laboratory operations.

The value of Adaptiveness also becomes a crucial foundation amid the rapid development of technology and changes in higher education policies. PLP are required to adapt to advancements in laboratory equipment, information systems, and testing methods that continue to evolve. This adaptive mindset is expected to strengthen the resilience and innovation of PLP in facing future challenges.

Miftakul Azis, a member of BNSP, stated that competency certification can significantly improve the capability and professionalism of PLP in managing advanced and certified laboratories. He hopes that this activity will encourage collaboration, innovation, and the implementation of quality standards so that laboratories can become impactful centers of research and learning for society and the nation.

Additionally, Sulistyo, a Senior PLP and entrepreneur from UNS, highlighted that PLP play a crucial role in supporting practicum activities, research, and laboratory development. Beyond technical and managerial competence, PLP also require an entrepreneurial mindset to optimize resources, create innovative products and laboratory services, and explore opportunities that support the independence of educational institutions.

Through the implementation of the PLP ITS National Seminar 2025, ITS demonstrates its commitment to strengthening the capacity and professionalism of laboratory personnel in Indonesia. This activity serves not only as a platform for knowledge exchange but also as a momentum for synergy between universities, government, and industry in building laboratory ecosystems that are excellent, competitive, and impactful for national development.

The active participation of attendees in presenting questions to the speakers reflects strong interest and concern for issues related to laboratory development in Indonesia. Throughout the seminar, participants gained new knowledge and insights from the materials delivered by the speakers.

One participant, Sukamto, a PLP from UII, expressed his enthusiasm. “As a PLP, I see the PLP ITS National Seminar 2025 as an important platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and innovations in competency development. I hope this event strengthens professionalism, adaptability, and certification among PLP so that laboratories can contribute more significantly to advancements in research, education, and the development of human resources in Indonesia,” he said.

He concluded with the hope, “I wish for ITS to continue organizing national seminars showcasing the work of PLP, providing proceedings for paper presenters, and offering visits to ITS laboratories to broaden participants’ insights.”
