Prof Deden menyampaikan pentingnya menerapkan<em>smart city concept<\/em>\u00a0dalam perencanaan transportasi di Kota Jakarta mengingat kompleksnya persoalan transportasi di Jakarta. Jakarta sebagai sebuah megaurban (Jabodetabek) mengalami pertumbuhan penduduk dan pertumbuhan transportasi yang pesat, terutama sepeda motor. Tidak tersedianya system Metro yang melayani angkutan umum massal di Jakarta menyebabkan ketergantungan masyarakat pada penggunaan kendaraan pribadi sangat tinggi. Prof Deden mengungkapkan trend smart city dalam perencanaan transportasi telah diterapkan di berbagai negara, dengan deskripsi perbandingan data di kota-kota di Amerika.
