[Jombang, August 27, 2026] — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) contributed to the series of activities of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress, held from August 27–31, 2026, at Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java. ITS’s participation supports the Congress through contributions in healthcare services, appropriate technology, human resource development, and community economic empowerment.
The 35th NU Congress serves as the highest deliberative forum of Nahdlatul Ulama and represents a strategic moment to strengthen organizational consolidation, formulate policy directions, and enhance NU’s contribution to religious, national, and community life. The East Java NU Regional Board (PWNU Jawa Timur) also emphasized the importance of synergy with the government, business sector, academia, and various strategic partners to ensure the Congress is conducted in an orderly, safe, professional, and dignified manner.
As part of this momentum, ITS provided several contributions focused on community needs, including:
ITS supported community services by providing free health check-ups for participants and members of the community in need. This contribution formed part of the healthcare support provided throughout the Congress.
ITS also presented an appropriate technology exhibition as a platform to introduce technological innovations that can be applied and provide direct benefits to the community.
The exhibition represents a concrete contribution by higher education institutions in bridging knowledge, innovation, and community needs. Through this exhibition, visitors can see how technological innovations can be developed into practical solutions that are relevant to real-world challenges.
As part of efforts to strengthen the halal industry ecosystem, ITS provided free Halal Supervisor training. The program aims to enhance human resource capacity in understanding and implementing the Halal Product Assurance System.
The training is particularly relevant given the growing need for competent human resources in the halal sector. Halal Supervisors play an important role in ensuring that production and product management processes comply with halal principles and halal product assurance requirements.
Through this program, ITS seeks to expand halal literacy while encouraging the development of competent human resources capable of contributing to the strengthening of the Halal Value Chain and the growth of Indonesia’s halal industry.
Another contribution was delivered through the OPOP Training Center, which supports capacity building for communities and entrepreneurs. The program focuses on improving competencies, business development, and economic empowerment based on local community potential.
The presence of the OPOP Training Center also strengthens ITS’s role in connecting education, technology, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment, enabling knowledge and innovations developed within higher education to create broader social and economic impact.
These four contributions demonstrate that ITS’s involvement in the 35th NU Congress is not merely about institutional participation, but also about creating direct benefits for the community through education, healthcare, technology, halal development, and economic empowerment.
This participation is aligned with the spirit of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi), particularly in bringing knowledge and technology to society and creating meaningful contributions to community development.
Through its involvement in the 35th NU Congress, ITS reaffirms its commitment to strengthening collaboration with various elements of society while supporting the development of excellent human resources, technological innovation, the halal industry ecosystem, and community economic empowerment.
Through synergy among higher education institutions, community organizations, government, the business sector, and society, the NU Congress is expected not only to produce strategic decisions for the organization but also to generate broader positive impacts for community welfare and national development.
