[Ankara, 15 April 2026] — The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), in collaboration with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), organised a Training Course on “Halal Certification Frameworks and Regulatory Compliance” on 15 April 2026, within the framework of SESRIC’s Halal Capacity Building Programme (HALAL-CaB), for the benefit of relevant institutions from OIC Member Countries.
The training course aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and technical capacities in the areas of halal standardisation, halal certification, and regulatory compliance, while fostering the exchange of expertise and good practices among OIC Member Countries.
The programme on the second day featured three technical sessions. Session 4, entitled “SMIIC and SMIIC Standardization Activities,” was delivered by Mr. Yasin ZÜLFIKAROĞLU, Specialist, The Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC). The session introduced participants to SMIIC’s standardisation procedures and activities in 2026, including the role of the Standardization Management Council (SMC), Technical Committees, and the structured process for developing OIC/SMIIC standards.
Session 5, entitled “OIC/SMIIC Standards on Halal Issues used for Halal Certification,” was also delivered by Mr. Yasin ZÜLFIKAROĞLU, Specialist, SMIIC. The session provided a comprehensive overview of the principal OIC/SMIIC standards used in halal certification, including standards related to halal food, halal cosmetics, halal tourism, halal supply chain, halal quality management systems, edible gelatine, animal feed, food additives, halal pharmaceuticals, and conformity assessment.
Session 6, entitled “Good Practice Example at National Level Implementation on Halal Certification,” was delivered by Ms. Tuğba Daysaloğlu KÖKLÜ, Director of Halal Certification, Turkish Standards Institution (TSE). The session presented the experience of Türkiye in implementing halal certification at the national level, highlighting the roles of TSE, HAK, and relevant OIC/SMIIC standards, as well as certification processes, audit requirements, and practical control points applied in different product groups.
Through this activity, SESRIC and SMIIC reaffirmed their commitment to supporting OIC Member Countries in enhancing their institutional capacities in halal-related standardisation and certification, promoting harmonisation in halal practices, and strengthening regulatory compliance in line with OIC/SMIIC standards and international good practices.
The training course formed part of SESRIC’s ongoing efforts under the HALAL-CaB Programme to advance institutional cooperation, technical capacity development, and knowledge sharing in the halal sector across OIC Member Countries.
