The Department of Physics has now entered the fourth decades as part of a formal higher education institution. The Physics department, in addition to educating and preparing human resources in science and technology, also assists the industry directly through consulting media. The Department of Physics that is in the auspices of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) opened a Magister program (S2) Physics starting from 2001\/2002. Supported by 25 qualified lecturers: 4 professors, 13 doctoral persons, 8 masters and assisted by 18 administration and laboratory technicians. The supporting facilities available are as follows: Lecture room, 13 laboratories, and 3 workshops, reading room with more than 2000 literature, international scientific journals, national scientific journals, including 24-hour Internet connection and other supporting facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Master Program of Physics invites professionals to improve individual competitiveness through the development and enhancement of personal skills in the field of physics. Physics, according to its knowledge, is the spearhead in the development of science and technology for research and engineering purposes. After graduated, alumni are expected to have a sharper physics analysis on the broader level of science.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Field Of Interest<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Study Program has 4 areas of interest that students can choose according to their talents and abilities, among others:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>MATERIAL PHYSICS<\/strong>, Study of oxides and silicon-based semiconductors, metals, polymers, related to synthesis, characteristics, theory, and capitalization. The study was directed to uncover application variables such as electricity, mechanical, corrosion, and acoustics to support the industry.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GEOPHYSICS<\/strong>, Application of physics in studying the symptoms of Earth and its utilization for mapping natural structure and artificial under the surface of the world. Including natural events that can occur in the land, the sea, the atmosphere, and its interactions with human life. The structure of the undersurface settlements is related to the interests of mining materials (oil, gas, and minerals) as well as civil construction planning. Undersurface artificial structures can be utilized for environmental and archaeological studies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>OPTOELECTRONICS<\/strong>, Learn about optical communication devices (fiber optic, switching waveguide, etc) and microwave (antenna mobile communication, portable-phone) both experimentally and with numeric analysis with FD-BPM method &amp; FD-TD; and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) with holographic and ESPI methods.<\/li>\n<li><strong>THEORETYCAL PHYSICS<\/strong>, Understand fundamental laws in nature, specifically interested in the application of quantum theory to particle physics and actual issues related.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Academic Activities<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Magister Program of Physics conducted within 4 semesters (2 years), with the maximum time limit of the study period is 4 years. Credit expenses at least 40 credits, including theses according to the curriculum. The academic calendar of the first semester begins in early September, while the second semesters begin in early February and ends in June.
